Hi everyone, and let's not waste any time, I'm an avid & Fanatical Win XP 4 Life dude !
Vista home,pren,ultimate,hack,slash,jedi was all fail.
they gave us a huge RAM sucker with a candy skin and a few pre-available widgets and other obnoxious gadgets separated over a dozen packages.

And now we have a new challenger, Win Seven ! but i'm also specktical.

I'm gonna get a new HP G60t soon (P8900 2.4Ghz,4GO Ram), and the first thing i might do if i'm not tempted to test win 7 is to kill vista for a good ol' clean xp that works with everything and eats only a little ram
So tell me guys, how would this win 7 Beat a 64 Bit XP !?

DirectX 11. Possibly increased hardware support. More features than XP.

Yes XP takes less RAM and runs faster but sooner or later we have to give up on it. For now, just do a dual boot setup and get the best of both worlds.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.

What is done for drivers at this point ?
i don't think that 7 Can take in Vista ones.
Direct X 11 is definitely a strong point for 7

The display model is now version 1.1 which is supposed to have the capability to enhance performance. Although you can use Vista hardware drivers on Windows 7 if needed.

Windows 95 and 98 are eating very little RAM. If ram is the only problem.

I See, are there any benchmark performance comparison on intel cpus?

Hey!

I also skipped Vista. I use Vista at work... and i would never use it at home... its just that i dislike Vista... everything does not feel smooth... i would even say it feels slow somehow... it uses a lot of hardware ressource...

I was a huge XP fan ... but since testing Windows 7 i am a Windows 7 Fan :D

Some pro arguments:
- The GUI looks a lot better then XP but reacts at least as fast/smooth as XP
- Allready good driver support
- DirectX 11
- You don t need a high rig
- A lot of features you never thought of in XP
- Short boot time
- better multi core support then XP

I still have XP in my boot options but since the RC i dunno when i booted it the last time! I think you would really like it! :D

Ah BTW i allready made some Benchmarks with the BETA (build 7000) against XP.... and allready the BETA was as fast as XP with my RIG!

XP is much more stable (and secure) than 95 or 98 because it is based on NT technology.

I have not seen any benchmarks with the new display driver model. There is not much (if anything) currently making use of it in the real world. I suppose only time will tell.

Xp only "eats a little ram" because there is very little going on with it. The gui is bland and lifeless to say the least. Not only that but it is nearly a decade old and was around when processors were still aiming for a Ghz. Fast forward to 2009 and you have hardware that is made for the likes of vista and seven. I can live with the fact windows 7 takes up more ram than xp because it stands to reason that it should do with all that is going on.

Xp is dying a long drawn out death(hope I don't go the same way) and sooner or later it will pop it's clogs.

Imo windows seven is 10x the os xp will ever be even in the beta/rc stage of it's life. Xp had just as many teething problems as vista when it was born(although I never had any issues with vista myself).

I have been running windows 7 since November last year as my only os and I would NEVER entertain the thought of going back to xp. When you consider there is 2/3 times as much going on in seven as there is in xp it really amazes.

A thousand people can all tell you different things about it but until you take it for a spin yourself you will never know.

Win 7 kills xp in all it does!!

Processors were still in Mhz rather than Ghz never mind multi core support. And as for the formidable gui of xp I'm talking native to the os and not 3rd party software.

Oh rehael, there's probably no way that you can really be convinced, so this is just a game, but from the moment you start to install you will realize there's something different from the tired unhelpful MS that you are used to.

What about

  • dialog boxes written in plain English (for English speakers at least)(no one mentions that), or
  • Search in the start/orb menu so arcane Control Panel apps are a cinch to find, or
  • desktop window tricks (full screen, half screen, show desktop which you start by laughing at and end up using all the time, or
  • a file manager which really is more usable, better designed (design as in thought-out), looks better and where unzipping, unraring, burning, burning images are seamless.
Leave the rest for the others.
