Cooler Master Fans

While I don't have a problem with the CM HAF 922 case that I bought ~ 1.5 years ago, I can't say the same for the fans that came with it. So far, the rear 120mm exhaust, and the 200mm top blow hole fans have failed, and also a 92mm fan that came with my CM Hyper TX 3 CPU cooler. I'll never buy a CM fan again.

I know that fans don't last forever, but I have fans far older that these that are still spinning. I'm replacing these with Noctua fans, in hopes that they live up to their reputation and last much, much longer. Unfortunately, that is somewhat expensive, so if they don't, I may consider water cooling, not that that is cheap either.

I just went through the product list at Noctua, and it appears that they don't make a 200mm fan, so I need a good one from some place else...is there any?

My only alternative is to replace the 200mm with dual 120mm fans, which Noctua does make. I imagine that these would be somewhat noisier than the single large fan, but how would the CFM compare?

Thermal take make a 200mm fan, it's cheap but it worked. I fitted one for a friend, his case had fans blowing out the top but no intake so we cut it in as low as possible on the side panel.

Hmm, those are considerably cheaper than the CM 200mm fans. I hope that the price doesn't indicate life expectancy.

I usually use Antec cases and almost never have had to replace a case fan.

Don't take me wrong, because I'm a big "fan" of cheap, but as I stated in my last post, I'm really looking for something that is going to reliably last a good amount of time. If that can be had cheap...great! But I have my doubts.

I do occasionally read Newegg's specs and reviews. I did not check all of them out, but the reviews for the Antec Big Boy wasn't all that good. Despite the fact that it has the highest CFM of what I have read about, the quality of construction and non-standard mounting holes don't make it appear to be a good bet.

I use Nexus case fans. I just used the reviews and compared case fans cost wise and ended up picking the Nexus brand. I've had mine in my case for almost 2 years now and they run very quite...plus they have that added bling look with those blue LED's.

That doesn't help, because they don't make a 200mm fan, plus on the ones that they do, their CFMs are too low.

I just installed an aux. 60mm fan in my Thermaltake LanBox Lite case, and it helps to keep GPU temps down under full load (approx. 50-52C, 38-42C idle). The brand I bought was Masscool, and on average a fan is probably gonna last 1.5 to 3 years. The 60mm Fan cost me $2.15 (including tax). If I get 1.5 years out of it, I'll just throw it out and put in another one

Unfortunately, 200mm fans are not that cheap. While the average fans that you have used may only live 1.5 to 3 years, the stock fans that are in my Antec case are now ~7 years old, and they are still happily spinning, and I have never done anything to any of them, except clean surface dust. The Noctua fans all have 6 year warranties, but that is not typical.
