Cooling Temperature

I have noticed lately that my computer has been getting very hot when playing any kind of game or running multiple applications. It's not a natural warm, it is very hot to the touch. Can I regulate the fan speed at all? Is there a 3rd party app that can do that? I have a notebook cooler on the way, but would like to know if there is any other way to regulate this.

I have a 6 inch fan that clips on to the table on which I have my laptop.. I point the fan at the bottom and rear of the laptop where the fan intake is located.

Also you can reduce the temp by choosing another power plan. The downside of that is that then you might not have enough processor power.

WIN key + X | in the section showing a battery you can select from 3 different power plans, namely Balanced, Power Saver, and High Performance. When I use my laptop in an area that is warm/hot then I choose Power Saver. Be sure and do NOT put your laptop on your lap. When you do, there is a high probability that you are blocking either the fan intake or the fan exhaust or both.

hi,
i had this problem my hard drive was running on critical temps (54c) so i fitted a hard drive cooler, a blower fan (that sits in a available pci slot) and a intake fan (3 little fans that sit in the drive bay at the front bezel) and now my temps are always below 40c which is a large drop in temp. the noise is not that bad but i would rather have a bit of fan noise than a overheated inside case that will shorten the life of the components

sorry i thought you was using a desktop tower still the advice is there for anyone

I got an HP Envy and they are known for running extremely warm. I can't believe HP allowed that.

When I was an HP-ite, we didn't have any issues with heat, but I dealt primarily with the business lines, given the department I was in. However, as I've seen myself, and in keeping touch with some former co-workers, they quality of the laptops over all is very good....just not the attention given to cooling.

On a side note...I just wish it was Randy Mott who was forced to resign, and not just Mark Hurd. So be it.

HP laptops are notorious for heat issues. HP has had at least 1 recall for hardware failures on their pavilion dv line due to the excessive heat literally de-soldering and/or burning out hardware components.

Welcome to HP They're decently good laptops otherwise. The notebook cooler is gonna be your only/best bet.

Not specifically, other than to price them out with my still active employee discount from the HP EPP. Nice laptops, just very expensive for what you get.

Most all laptops suffer some sort of cooling issue, just the nature of cramming things so tightly and now with quad processors and speedy graphics it's really gotten hot. I laptop base cooler is almost essential now. My dual core does nicely on a raised aluminum base with rubber, it allows cool air to wash in and around the air intakes. Yours may require a usb powered fan option which I've also used and loved up until I started using a external hard drive which took the last two available usb ports. Take a look at this logitech product, it's pricey but it does all that the laptops don't do well very well. Cheers and oh remember to open your laptop up from the bottom access panels and gently blow it out with compressed air from time to time the gear just like a desktop does get dusty and it will improve air flow, just be careful and not too heavy handed!
