Copy and paste problem

Using Win7 64bit and old outlook express.
On emails from GF in Japan if I copy/paste it comes up as some musically notated gobbledegook.
All other emails if I copy/paste are fine.
I suspect the prob. lies on the Japan side but any thoughts are welcome

You are probably getting ASCII characters, you must install the Japanese language pack and see if that works

Thanks for that R. Had a feeling that it was the way to go.
Not sure what the implications of installing additional language packs are, do I possibly end up with a Japanese desktop perchance?
