copy files problem

the external drive was a bit iffy.
we bought a replacement
copied the whole drive to another drive
now all the folders are dated the date of the copying instead of their original dates.
if we redo the copying how do we tell it to keep the original dates of the folders.

this is on a win 7/64 computer. WD external drives

Welcome to the forum. There is built in robocopy which is very fast and can do that with easy


ROBOCOPY c:\src d:\dest /MIR /COPY:DT /DCOPY:T Will copy all files and folders and preserve the date and time stamps.
ROBOCOPY c:\src d:\dest /MIR /COPY:DAT /DCOPY:T Will copy all files and folders and preserve the date & time stamps and file attributes.

Ones ist to copy files keep time/date the at keeps atributes as well if you dont like dos get the free GUI so you dont need to use it Microsoft Robocopy GUI Free Download - Tech Journey

Just double click its an install

The extension should be .exe and if you find it in explorer and double click it should run the installation

I tried one folder and it created a new date - not current.
tried *.* and nothing was copied.
