I'm a noob at overclocking. Is it possible to give me a few advice how to overclock this system. Settings that should work without problems.

This is my hardware


Win 7 64 bit home

Intel Core i7 Quad Processor i7-950

ASUS P6X58D-E, Socket-1366

Corsair Dominator DHX+ DDR3 1600MHz 6GB

MSI GeForce GTX 460 1GB PhysX CUDA "Cyclone OC"

I get a score of 3.426

Seriously, what he said. Read up. I would do it but my CPU is locked, that and i'd have to build up the courage after what I've read about OC.

It should give you an idea on what to do.
I only recently OC'd my new setup using the AMD guide on that site and it helped a great deal,that and browsing through old,new and similar threads help.

As for giving you a fail safe OC setting list,well its not really possible as each chip/board etc can have different thresholds.You'll have to spend a good amount of time tweaking and stressing before you'll find your safe limits.

From browsing different threads on different forums i've seen stable overclocks ranging from 3.8 to 4.3GHz if your looking for a ball park figure

And after you've done that, you should be able to get 4.0ghz

Are you looking for an OC to run 24-7 or just to see what you can do with your chip?

The i7 9 chips run hot and with your current cooling I would not run over 3.8 under any kind of a load unless you just want to shorten the lifespan of the that chip and then go with an i7 2600K and run all day at 4.5 on air.
