Could you help prevent crashes and BSOD/Page fault in nonpaged area?

Kind of a general title, yes, but unfortunately I don't have all of the diagnostic information needed, so I'm asking for help on getting what I need to give you folks more information.

Here's the issue:
I've been experiencing system lockups. Everything freezes, and if any sound is playing, it loops a quarter of a second of the sound over and over (which usually sounds pretty freaky). Because of this lockup, NOTHING is being recorded - no minidumps, no events. Today, however, after the restart, it went to a BSOD saying "Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area" and referenced winsys32.exe. After doing research, I realize this is a very generic error... especially with no minidump to back it up.

After this error, I could not even restart in safe mode. I had to go to recovery and restore to the last healthy point. During the times I attempted to restart it in safe mode, I (physically) cleaned out my whole system, and re-seated memory/cards/cables. I did not take off my CPU and re-seat that. I also switched out memory from 4 sticks to 2 sticks to 1 stick (following the user guide as to which slots to seat the memory). No change, and I still eventually had to go through the restore process.

As opposed to waiting until the next time it happens, I'd like to take a more proactive approach, get some information to you folks, and see if there are any things that I can fix before I get the next crash. Please let me know what diagnostics I can run to get more information. As for now, I can simply offer a dxdiag and the knowledge that I've run memtest for over an hour with no errors.

Also, I have my computer connected to a UPS battery backup and a surge protector. I've tried different configurations with that (just surge protector, just UPS, surge then UPS, UPS then surge, direct to the wall, different sockets) and all configurations have had system lockups.

These crashes occur while browsing the web, playing games, even editing files in notepad. Doesn't seem to have any specific trigger.

Thanks for your time!

Legs are attached, but as I mentioned earlier... the minidumps there don't really relate to the crashes I've seen. These crashes aren't creating dumps.

The crash dumps are old enough, of April. And without a crash dump, what we can do to troubleshoot a stop 0x50 is to secure all the probable causes, one by one.
STOP 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Usual causes: Defective hardware (particularly memory - but not just RAM), Faulty system service, Antivirus, Device driver, NTFS corruption, BIOS
First I am paying attention to NTFS corruption, because of the previous crash dumps. They are reporting disc failures.
Code:

Make it sure that your SSD is running with the latest firmware.

Test the HDDs (not the SSD) using Seatools.Post screenshots of all your HDDs and the SSD using CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World

There are chances that the disc failure is actually caused by the storage controller, the Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controller.

Marvell is too problematic. I would not suggest you to update the driver, but to remove the driver. Uninstall Marvell.

  • Start Menu\Programs\Marvell\91xx driver
Let us know at this stage. We may need to follow the other possibilities too; depending on the situation.

All 3 Seagates passed the short DST
Images for all 4 disks from CrystalDisk are attached.

I do recall seeing that the marvel driver was old, but I was not able to find a newer one that would install. I'm a bit hesitant to just uninstall that driver entirely though.... what will that do to my system? Is there something I should be installing in it's place?

Uninstalling the Marvell driver will not cause any big harm.

The disc containing G and M Drives should not have passed short DST. There is a caution about uncorrectable sector count, which is a very bad indication about the disc's health. Run long test on it.

You are correct sir... it did fail.

So looking at the repair options, it says I should be worried about data loss. At the moment, I don't have enough HD space to back up what I have on that disk. I have been wanting to upgrade my space overall though and possibly go into RAID for redundancy to prevent data loss. The thing is, I usually research components for quite awhile before making a decision. With that being said, I'm left with 2 options:

- Attempt to fix the disk, hope it actually fixes it, and hope that I don't lose any data.
- Look for a newer storage solution and implement that first.

In regards to the first, what would you say is the likelyhood that I can fix the disk without losing data?
In regards to the second, do you have any recommendations? I was thinking at least 2 4TB HDs, but I've noticed that hybrids are gaining a lot of popularity, and I'm not sure what RAID configuration I should go for...

EDIT: Forgot the attachment

You dont need any sort of RAID, in general. If you need to attach multiple discs for any special reason (like running a server), that is different.

If you attempt the recovery option of Seatools for DOS, it will attempt to correct the bad sectors without losing data.

But if that fails, you should get a new one. And if recovery fails, better you remove that HDD from the machine.

After that, let us know how it is running.

Well good news! It found 4 errors but was able to successfully correct all of them! Hopefully it will continue running well, but I still plan to upgrade to at least a 4TB hd sometime in the near future. I don't need raid at all, you say? Well that's good.. because I've never used it.. I just thought it'd be safer, since I really don't have any place to back my stuff up to.

What about the hybrid HDDs? Is that technology worth pursuing?

I dont have any fair idea about hybrid drives.

If you get a HDD that is 4 TB, format the disc as GPT. That will be a better choice.

For backing up the data, the best way is to use cloud storage.

Phrozt, may I make a suggestion. Unplug the power wire from that hard drive and start up the computer and see if you still have problems. Just be sure to shut the computer off first. That will tell us whether that drive is the problem or not.

Well I have bad news. The crashes are occurring multiple times a day now. I keep running seagate long tests, and all drives always pass. The difference here is that I'm NOT getting the BSOD with the crashes, just a complete system lock up.

It IS still related to the internet going down though. If my comp crashes, the router goes down as well... or possibly vice versa.

I have not yet taken the big hard drive offline, and I can definitely try that, but because it keeps passing the test and has no important system files on it, I really don't think that would be the issue...

When you uploaded the data last time, it reported some massive disc errors.
Code:

As per your post #9 those errors are rectified. So it is not to be worried about it.

Now, a system lockup may occur due to a lot of reasons, and generally we deal with BSOD issues in this section of the forums.

But you still have some old problematic drivers like that of the HD Pro Webcam C920 one. The driver caused BSODs earlier, but still unaltered there.

Just grabbed those latest drivers and installed them.. we'll see. I hardly ever use my web cam though, so I'm not so sure that's the issue. Also, not sure if you saw in my first post, but this crash is still being accompanied by the quarter second of sound looping when it locks up. It's odd that everything freezes, but the audio still plays that quarter second over and over again.

EDIT: Per forum rules, should I move/recreate this in another section?

That is what I did first before I created this thread several weeks ago.

Also switched around all memory down to one stick on each.. same problem persisted.
Also cleaned the entire case.
