Crash (no BSOD appears) while playing World of Warcraft

Problem:

While playing World of Warcraft (I haven't noticed this happen with any other program), a crash occurs in which there are skinny vertical lines of different color across the screen. This happen at least once or twice a day. I never see an actual bsod.

Here's my system:
Mobo: Asus M4A78 Plus (latest bios version 1214, also latest chipset update)
Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE (i planned on OC'ing, but have not yet because of the crashes)
Overclocking: Not yet because the system is already unstable.
Vid Card: SAPPHIRE 100283L Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16
RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel
PSU: Thermaltake toughpower W0103RU 600W ATX12V / EPS12V
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5"
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
I've got a 3rd party Zalman CNPS10X Extreme cpu cooler on the phenom II. (which I have already taken off, removed the paste, and reapplied much more carefully).
I've got the latest of all drivers/software (all Win 7 64 bit compatible). I have completely reseated every component.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Were you aware of the above? If so, please explain so we may understand your troubleshooting steps.

Also, be aware that disabling devices does not always prevent the drivers from loading, so they may still cause conflicts if they are not updated.​

Software Concerns:

You have a lot of unnecessary programs running on your system. I would recommend that you http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html and leave only the non-Microsoft items for AVG and Comodo software enabled in startup and services.​

Analysis:

Your SpeedFan software is out of date. Please uninstall it and download a fresh copy from SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer.


BugCheck 0x124

You have a 0x124 hardware bugcheck. If the system is still under warranty, I would recommend sending it in to have diagnostic tests done and any bad hardware replaced.

• If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.
  
  
• If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:
  • SSD firmware
  • BIOS Version
  • Chipset Drivers
  • Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
  • If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.
  
  
• Run all but the advanced tests with SeaTools for HDDs.

  Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures.​
  • Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
  • Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
  • HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
  • Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.
    
    
  • Run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100352-hardware-stress-test-prime95.html to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.
    
    
  • Follow the steps for doing CPU stress test using IntelBurnTest
  
  
• Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).
  
  For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:
  1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
  2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
  3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
  4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
  Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Device Concerns:

I disabled the wireless network adapter because of poor performance, I was using an

ethernet cable connected to my laptop. I disabled the ATI High Definition Audio Device

in a previous troubleshooting attempt. The problem persists whether it is enabled or

disabled. The Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface has always been that way.

Software Concerns:

I am now using the clean startup procedure described

here.

Analysis:

BugCheck 0x124

• 
  I put this rig together myself, so no system manufacturer.

• 
  I am not overclocking any components.

• 
  I do not have an SSD, it is HDD. All tests with SeaTools for Windows passed.

• 
  Still in the process of testing FurMark.

• Prime95 ran on each test type for a few hours, no errors. Temperatures were fine during these tests.

• Memtest86+ ran overnight, 6 passes, no errors.

• Still need to run IntelBurnTest

• Going to run mdsched overnight tonight.

• Still need to run the video card memory test you suggested.

Update on crashes:

It took a while for it to crash when running in selective startup. But I have had it crash, I looked at BlueScreenView and the crashes now are caused by hal.dll. Does this mean anything to you?

All your most recent crashes are the same as the previous crashes. Question: What temperatures do you consider to be fine? Please share your temperatures under stress.


Also, we should check hardware compatibility:

Download and install CPU-Z and Upload screenshots of the CPU, Mainboard, Memory, and SPD tabs. In the SPD tab, upload an image of each slot.​

Temperatures under stress:

• During Furmark burn in test with 2x MSAA (ran it for 1.5 hours):
  • CPU 26 C
  • Motherboard 43 C
  • GPU 71 C

• During Prime95
  • CPU 29 C
  • Motherboard 34 C
  • GPU 33 C

Once they stabilize, the temperatures are constant. These temps are from Speccy.

Still running other tests I mentioned in my previous post.

All looks good there... Hopefully the other tests will turn something up. This is looking like it may turn out to be a bit of a mystery.
