hi there,

is there a way to create a desktop shortcut to activate the start button, without having UAC enabled at all (slider all the way down)?

thanks in advance.

??? Don't you have a START Button? (on Windows 7) This is the Windows 7 forum, isn't it?

I only run W-7 with UAC disabled (slider all the way down) also 8.1 and 10, the same way.
To add your own start button and many other options you can run "The Classic Shell" on Win-7,
just like you would on 8.1 or 10. I don't, usually, but you can.

Have you ever tried it?

Cheers mate!

Can you explain what you are trying to accomplish? I don't see how a Desktop shortcut, if possible, is any easier than clicking on the Start button.

i do use the win key a lot. i am designing a series of specialized desktops each made for running specific tasks and don't have the flexibility of well-rounded desktops. my goal is to make these spartan systems as console-like as possible. i don't intend to use an explorer shell replacement.

my start button and taskbar are permanently hidden and disabled to facilitate fullscreen mode at program start or at windows explorer level, without any indication of the 2-pixel white line of the taskbar outline. they are hidden before logon until shutdown, and i mainly use the dock to navigate and aero-flip to switch between programs. once in full usage, i even minimize to completely disable my Desktop Pane. i noticed this greatly reduces a lot of lag for me.

in order not to rely on just the win key, i was hoping to create a shortcut on the dock (so i can navigate lazily with just 1 hand). but it's not really a big deal- my start menu will mostly be used during self-maintenance anyway, so during normal operation just the dock is good enough.

hey sorry if my system sounds stupid to u, i guess i'm building to suit a specific need.
