I need a "Send shortcut to Start Menu" function

Hi @all,

I'd like to have shortcuts (not copies) of things that are selected in Windows Explorer sent to a folder in the SendTo menu. This way, I'd like to add the zillions of portable programs that I have to a new Windows installation's start menu. In other words, I'd need a "Send shortcut to Start Menu" function (but not "Pin to Start Menu").

Is there a way to do this?

thanks -- but this sends copies, not links of the selected files to the target folder

You could create the shortcut first, where the program is stored, and then send the shortcut to the start menu.
Right click the program executable, and select Create shortcut.
Maybe not the most elegant but it works.

However a) I can't get it to work, and b) I don't understand why a junction is involved (should be needed) there

Good find.

The hold down the ALT key, then tap the CTRL key and while still holding the ALT key, right click on the program and select Sendto just sends a shortcut to the Start menu.

I'm looking at the rest to see if I can understand what they are doing with the Junction.

Actually, when right-clicking on an *.exe file in Windows Explorer, there is a menu entry "pin to start" available.

However, if I choose this, nothing happens. Meaning, the respective program does not turn up in the Windows 10 start menu.

What gives?

That works for me. Selecting Pin to start creates an entry on the start menu.
