Create system image won't detect external hard disk

Hi, im having a problem trying to create a system image and store it in my external hdd.
This isnt the first time i use the windows backup to create a system image, ive done it before using this external hdd with no problems at all.
But now, for some reason it wont detect this hard drive, it only gives me the option to store the image on a dvd, i dont know why?, i tested the hard drive on a different computer and IT WORKS, i tried to create an image and it does work.

Heres a picture so you guys can see the problem:

sorry the image is kinda big, but as you can see on the left, windows DOES detect the hard drive, BUT when i try to create the image, it simply doesnt, it only gives me the dvd option.
i hope you guys can help me here, thanks a lot

You have not stated the App you are using to create the sysrem image. Please tell us.

I have experienced the same thing once in a way with Acronis but the issue always gets resolved by restarting Acronis. You may try to restart your imaging App to see if the matter gets resolved. But I suspect that you may have already done that to no effect.

The next thing to do would be to change your image back-up App. This might succeed. Please try it out and let us have the results.

That looks like a windows system image. Do you have Windows files on your F: drive? If so it will be included in the image and therefore cannot be a destination for the image.

I think if you proceed further assuming a DVD based image (but NOT following through) and you find F: is included in the forced image then you know a system file or something like a windows library (eg. some music) lives there. Then move it.

Hi, thank you for your replies, i was using the built in app that comes with windows.
I tried restarting my laptop and it still wouldnt work... so i downloaded acronis and it worked, it DID detect the hdd.

2 days later i tried again with the windows built in app, and it worked... i dont know why but it worked, now i have both acronis and that one just in case
