I am not very technical.

I am a Dell 5521 Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

When I go to make a Restore Point I see 2 partitions: RECOVERY and OS (C:)

Recovery is Off and OS C: is On.

I know the Recovery partition never changes and I am just making a restore point for the C: drive.

I just want to make sure that if I ever need to use the Restore Point it will not clobber or hurt the RECOVERY partition.

Do I need to back up both partitions with the Restore Point or can I leave it as it is.

Hello Tori, and welcome to Seven Forums.

That would be correct to only have System Protection turned on for your C: (Windows) drive/partition and not for the RECOVERY partition. You don't want to have anything being saved on the RECOVERY partition.
Afterwards, you could also set the maximum disk space usage on the C: drive to be used for storing restore points to what you like.
If you wanted to have a full system image backup instead, then you could create a system image and save it to a separate location (ex: external hard drive).

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Are you aware that a Restore Point only allows you restore the Operating System (kernel, drivers, and system files) and has nothing to do with saving or restoring your data?

If what you really want to do is create a backup of your install, such that you can restore the full setup at a later date, then you should look into doing image backups, instead.

Macrium Reflect provides a free tool for doing this, as to other vendors, as does Windows itself.

Thanks so much ... this is very helpful.

I do realize it is only for the Operating System and I create restore points before installing new software.

I also do a system image from time to time. Just in case.
