I recently got my new dell laptop, and windows 7 home premium dvd both supplied and pre installed on it.
i tried installing the same windows 7 on my old laptop but it did not boot. is it even possible to boot from the dvd, or is it protected by some software?
or do i just need to create a new dvd?
am not really bright in computers, but if u can explain properly, i'll comprehend.

You can only use the DVD on the new dell laptop. You can't use more than one copy/license, legally.

The supplied dvd would be a dell oem dvd, it would boot and install windows only on a compatible dell computer. If your older computer is a different brand, that would explain the problem. In any case you have no business using this dvd on a computer than the one it came with.
