Creative X-fi Xtreme Audio

Bought this card today. Because it said support for vista, I thought it would work in Windows 7 as well.

Installed the card and I had immediately sound. Then I went to the creative site to install the drivers because I had only control over the volume. There was no EAX, no bass control, nothing. After the installation of the drivers from creative: no sound. Nothing.

Then I deleted the card from computer management and installed other drivers (pax v3.50). Then I had really bad sound (very low, and it was absolutely not clean). In fact it was so low that even when everything on full (even speakers) it was softer then I'm used to at 25%.

I bought this card for the good audio (better then on-board). Now the audio and control over it (without the drivers) are exactly the same as the on-board.

Not surprised in the least that that happened. It is admirable that the guy that made them is trying to help, but everything he adds to the INF is nothing more than hopes and wishes (he even adds registry entries to stop BSOD's to the INF; as if it was that easy to stop those).

That said the guy that modded this set,

does know what he is doing. If you haven't maybe give them a try.

Oh, I forgot to say that I have the PCI Express version of this card. Apparently there is only support for the pci-version in the link that you gave me.

If there is no other way than to buy a new soundcard, is there some kind of list of soundcards with native windows 7 support that actually work native?

He points to the drivers from Creative. Just tested it and still doesn't work (only if I put my speakers and everything in software to 100%.)

That's because the "X-Fi Xtreme Audio" doesn't use an X-Fi (EMU20K1) chip. Its X-Fi functions are mostly done in software. Post #4 (WolfSoul) gives a link to a list by Stormy13; apparently, the Xtreme Audio is basically a relabeled Audigy.

That's not necessarily terrible, but the drivers for the "true" X-Fi cards won't be of much use to you.

Did you download the ones specific to your card?
