Hello sevenforums, I am greatly needing your assistance. Earlier today I uninstalled avast! antivirus as it was hogging up more RAM that I wanted. After restarting the PC to my dismay it would not boot up, going into a system repair which would then fail.
I looked at the details regarding the failed repair and it said \windows\system32\DRIVERS\ACPI.sys is corrupt
I went into the advanced options and it would not give me a restore point or restore image to use.
I googled for hours regarding this issue and tried several fixes using the command prompt including chkdsk, bootrec, and finally I found this which seemed to pertain to where I was at in regards to fixing this myself:
"If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order in which they are presented. Press ENTER after each command.
Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
Bootrec /rebuildbcd"
-It did find a windows installation when previously it wasn't, I crossed my fingers and restarted and still nothing.
Now when it attempts to boot it does not go into a system repair, instead, it immediately says:
-File: \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\ACPI.sys
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.
It no longer gives me the option to go into system recovery, so I can no longer get into the command prompt, it would never boot into safe mode either. I can get into my BIOS and it still detects my HDD. I bought this PC online a few years back as a custom build and it did not come with a Windows 7 disk.
Are all my saved files and games doomed? Willing to try just about everything because before deciding to uninstall avast! everything worked just fine like normal and I was enjoying playing Fallout 4... not anymore. Please, anyone out there know what to do?
