Hi! A bit of context before I begin: I love PC gaming, and I'd like to build a new rig. I have a bit of knowledge of hardware (but not that much) but I don't have a lot of knowledge of reliable brand names or how to assemble hardware into a fully functioning system. So I'm in a bit of a bind and I'm not too fond of asking computer stores for 'advice'. Their underlying need to sell stuff never bodes well when I'm asking for good, solid information, and they always seem to charge way more than necessary. I have a budget of 2,500 Euros (which means 2685 USD in America). I do believe that's a sound budget for an excellent new rig.

What I'm having most difficulty with, though, is the monitor. I'd love to keep my current monitor (BenQ FP222Wa) for applications, desktop and whatnot and pair that monitor with a brand new monitor for gaming. Is that possible?

The more I look for information, especially with monitors, the more I get lost in statistics and facts that seem to change from website to website. The core of my question would then be: In order to find a good monitor, what do I need to look for? I only want to game on a single GPU, but I also want to game at at least 60 frames per second and have a great image quality, not just from the game itself, but also from the screen.

So, with that budget in mind, what are my possibilities?

This should give you a slight idea of what your dealing with in todays components

http://www.sevenforums.com/pc-custom-builds-overclocking/384652-my-skylake-6700k-journey.html

This is my Thread on Skylake i listed what i used for parts but the Motherboard and Ram you might want to select the type that fits you more

Most of the time if you want a solid build you have to ask yourself how long you want to keep using it and how much can you get out of it for the money spent

As for Video Cards again truly to your needs i would go with any 980 or 970 Nvidia model

One monitor that is plenty and you still have $2000 left over you could even build Haswell E if you work your budget out right

Hi,
Yep monitors that can take quite a chunk of change out of a budget for sure
Depending on which single gpu you get I don't see any reason to not get a 980ti oc of some sort

Which will have gsync capabilities but you have to decide if your willing to spend nearly 500.us on a freaking monitor :D

I wasn't willing to although the above monitor has changed prices more than gas rates :p

I got a 2k monitor works great and I'm about ready for another

Well, you've actually nailed my problem quite nicely there. The monitor I will choose depends on the GPU I choose and vice versa. In pure screen quality, would I be better at picking a 1920 x 1080 or a 2560 x 1440? Aren't 1920 x 1080 resolution monitors being superseded by 2560 x 1440 or even 4K Monitors? Then I have the other problem of screen size. I'm always sitting about 70 cm (that's 27.5 inches) away from the screen.

In my country, a GTX 970 costs around 370 EUR, and a 980Ti costs around 800 EUR. It's certainly futureproof, but very expensive. Another good question, if I may ask it, is how much a GOOD gaming monitor is worth. I don't care about 144hz that much, as I never play online games. I do feel IPS or AH-IPS screens are much more to my tastes. It's not the price that bugs me, but I want premium quality for the amount I'm paying.

Hi,
Well I view about the same distance and 24" is plenty large enough for me 27" is pretty good size too just a little larger I've never used one personally.

Resolution well a lot of people use dual or more monitors and use Extend with them and so the resolution would increase according to those settings
I use a single monitor now 1920-1080 but have use dual monitors before = kind of miss it :/ pretty much why I'm very close to getting another asus 24" but never used extend so both monitors were on there recommended resolution I believe 1600-900 was the recommended at that time because that was the size of the monitor.

I would still use 1920-1080 with 2 asus 144's I posted because I wouldn't use extend
I would just use each monitor for different open programs with the same separate desktop back ground not one huge back ground.
144 is definitely worth getting my friend the clarity/ colors/.. alone is amazing difference than a regular monitor you start to get into high end t.v.'s :D which yes for the price of the 4k monitors you'd be better off getting a 144 40" t.v. :p
Or at least that is my view on it :)
2k and 144 is awesome and well worth it

There are many 980ti's on the market now and yes again the uk does seem to get hit with higher prices  not sure why though money is money :/

Hi,
1 last note to take advantage of a 4k monitor you'd have to get a titan x or z gpu otherwise 2k is what you'd be best getting and any 980 gpu which is what I have :)

At a quick look everything looks okay
Although 5ms response time isn't as good as 1ms like the 24" I posted

Also if available the evga 850 P2 is a lot better I believe than the corsair psu
