Custom Build Not posting.

Hey guys, back again... I had a problem a couple weeks back with BSOD's and finally found out it was bad ram. So i RMA'd that and was borrowing some of my friends Ram and it worked perfectly fine. This morning was when my RAM came in and I was on the computer before school started. When I came home my RAM was here and I installed it and it just won't post at all. All I'm getting is a black screen. Tried two different monitors, a different GPU, and the old ram i was using earlier in it. What the HECK is wrong with this? My $1500 build is just a huge paperweight at the moment and it really is grinding my gears. I know you guys can help.

Did you try putting your old ram in and see if it works any different than the new ram? There could be something wrong with the new ram.

Are you sure you ordered the correct memory?
Did you put the memory in the same slots as your friend's memory?

Use the tech support that comes with the RAM to determine with certainty whether it is to spec, or RMA it for replacement. Every legit maker offers this, some like Kingston will help you and replace it for life.

Yea I put the old RAM back in and tried that and it didn't work and then I put the new RAM in the same slots and tried booting and didn't work. I talked to customer support from Corsair and they said the RAM was compatible with my mobo, and before I was running one 2GB stick perfectly fine.

Okay, it's not even posting. It's possible static electricity fried the memory. Does your friend's memory still work? If yes, return the new memory. If no, pull every card out one by one to see if something else is preventing your computer from starting. Do you get power? Does the mobo light up? Do you get diagnostic beeps? When you say black screen, you don't even see the option to enter bios, correct?

I just talked to my friend and he says his ram isnt being reconized now. is that bad?

Not trying to be insulting, but you didn't pull the old RAM and insert the new sticks with the system power on did you? Cuz that would definitely cause the symptoms you're having. That or ESD.

No the system was shut off and the power was disconnected.

What is ESD or ElectroStatic Discharge

Well I know about ESD but I was wearing a static wristband grounded to my computer. I can still get ESD wearing that?

What was the computer grounded to? Were you standing on carpet while wearing socks? What were you wearing? Synthetic clothing materials are famous for generating ESD buildups. That's why they are banned in my lab at work.

I could go on... There are so many sources it gets a little silly after a while.

Yea sorry guys if I'm sounding like an A## but I'm just really frustrated right now so I'm sorry for being upset. The computer was on a wooden desk in a carpeted room and I was wearing a cotton t shirt jeans and shoes.

Call the RAM tech support and tell them it is not registering. Have them walk you through troubleshooting it, making sure to mention the wristband and other precautions you are taking. Do not mention suspicions about frying the RAM. Let them help you determine it. If it still won't work they will probably RMA it.

Does anyone have any constructive suggestions to help him determine this with certainty?

Will my computer have just a black screen because of that? Because my board has 256mb of built in RAM...

Yeah, Greg is right. In this case with tech support, ignorance might be bliss.
