customize windows 7 explorer

i had my windows xp pretty customized, got a new computer with windows 7

in xp you could set the width of the scrollbars, the font size on pop-up messages, the background color of pop-up messages and even the font type. you could customize the font type, style, size, and color of the bars of the tops of the windows.

you could reassign cursors, you could reassign sounds notifications or shut of a sound notification for a particular item completely.

there was a whole snotload of stuff you could do to make it easier to see.

it was accessed by right-clicking on the desktop, i can`t remember where i went after that.

it was not an add on or some program, it was built right into windows.

anyone know if i can do it here on windows 7 all i can do is change the background picture and the overall size.

i would also like to delete a bunch of stuff i never will use and will just take up room. i`m not an idiot who randomly changes and deletes, i`m talking about fonts i will never use or foreign language ones, of pictures such as the ones that come with the built in schemes.

You can customise a lot of things. If you want more of an "XP-Style" experience, then I would suggest you start with this;

Welcome to Classic Shell

Here is an example of what you can do with some more fairly simple customisation;

- I have yet to be able to do this again, but a few weeks ago I unintentionally came upon the exact same interface as in XP and was able to therefore adjust ALL of the same settings for my 7 OS and am using Home Premium. I've yet since then been able to recall the path I took but keep looking, it IS there.

HINT: Maybe with your XP, determine the exact name of this interface via Task Manger upon running it then use CMD in 7 and run the interface.

Just hit the Start Button and type 'metrics' and you'll see a program called 'Change Windows Colors and Metrics'.

It is (disappointingly) exactly the same as it was in XP . .

What are you using to get the tabs? Is that from Classic Shell?

You can change fonts etc exactly as you did in XP.

Right click on the desktop and select "Personalise";

To select various fonts. colours, etc. Click on "Window Colour";

awesome, it worked. but putting it under "color" is a bit stupid.

next question, can you give me a link to the folder to the taskbar? i've got an item on it that will not delete or remove from the taskbar.

the other issue, it doesn't seem to want me to be eble to let me change icons

First of all, I would appreciate it if you would remove the "windows 7 sucks" from your signature. Things like this are self-fulfilling prophecies and if you believe that statement, then you might as well go back to XP,or install Linux. Also, I don't like it because it is not true, and gives people a bad impression.

That just happens to be where it is, and it has to be somewhere. Once you know where it is, which you would if you had read even the most superfluous documentation, it no longer seems stupid. It is under the main heading "Personalisation" which does not seem at all stupid to me. If you don't know where to find things, that has nothing to do with the the things themselves.

There is no "Folder to the taskbar" as such. it is a composite made by using a virtual folder. If you tell me what you would like to change, I may be able to suggest a solution.

You can not easily change system icons, they are part of the system. It is possible, but I don't advise trying it until you know more about the system.

Just a little social tip, the word "please" can sometimes work wonders.

I'm enjoying some nice music, the sun is setting, my computer (running 7) is humming sweetly in the background as things are just nicely making sense with a sip of wine ;-)
