D Drive after Custom Install

I did a custom install from vista to 7(32 bit) today.

I deleted all old restore points through the space management, however, the partition reads a still mostly full. There is only 1.8gb out of 8.3 available. When I access the folder, there is nothing in there, even if I show hidden files.

I believe it is remnants of my old vista recovery drive, which I did not erase prior to my upgrade and was always equally full to what it is now.

How would I go about eliminating these files now so I can backup my new OS installation?

Im figuring that the D drive is nother partion that Windows is not installed, but had system restore enabled while running Vista? If there is nothing on the D drive you want/need you could format it.

If system protection is enabled for D disable it first.

Computer> Right click on D> Format
Or via the disk management tool. Start, type DISK, click "Create and format hard disks"

Thanks for the advice, I formatted the drive, and it is now 99% empty.

I'm trying to set a new backup in that drive now, and every time I try it says there is insufficient space. It says backup size is only 69mb, but I have 8.22gb free.

Any more tips? Why would it think there is not enough space, or is the 69mb reading wrong?

A few more questions... Your just doing a regular backup and not an image (complete pc)?

As I go thru the steps of the backup wizard + schedule I dont an estimated backup size. At what point does the backup utility report the size of 69 MB's?

You have show hidden files selected. Do you have "Hide protected operating system files" unchecked?

Is your pagefile located on the D drive?

I'm doing a custom backup, it's even less than the recommended though, so the size is puzzling. I have it set to backup "Backup Data for Newly Created Users," documents,pictures, and a system image.

As for the estimated backup size, I might be losing my mind, I can't find it now. I think I just imagined it said that above the shield and "Manage Space" button.

Right now in my D drive there are 4 files displayed(with the proper boxes unchecked, displaying hidden files and OS files.)

I think I see the problem. Open up Backup & Restore and change the schedule. Go thru the choosing the drive etc. Then the option to choose custom files and folders.

Now be sure to uncheck "Include a system image..." This option uses a good amount of space since it images the C drive. Your backup should fit on the drive after this.
