Hi,
Does anyone know any good data recovery software that is free?

My sisters external drive failed, and when i plug it directly into my PC i ran check disk, and i fixed the drive and put all her files in a hidden folder in a .chk format.

I found a software, that recovered some stuff, but it was far to slow and was just looking for JPG files when all she really need is her .docx files

So I ended up using recuva, and recover the .docx files will get the JPEG later.

It seems that some .doc file didn't quite transfer correctly/are still corrupt.

Are they long gone or is there something else I could try and do.

The main thing is not to get a Trojan infection through an update. Sometimes this happens because of inattention. After such an infection, a friend of mine had to recover his data on his hard drive. He wanted to try to fix the problem himself. I talked him out of it, advising him to trust the experts. My friend found this information on the internet and decided to contact salvagedata. They offered a free diagnostic of the drive and a solution to the problem. Now hackers use various techniques to hack personal data, and any update can pick up the problem.
