default gateway is not available. very annoying.

Hey there!
I recently bought an Alienware laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. The first 2 weeks or so i had aboslutely no problems, but after that the internet started to cut out randomly, it wouldn't completely disconnect, it would just show an exclamation mark over the wireless signal icon.
The only way to temporarily fix it is to troubleshoot the network, and all it tells me is that "The default gateway is not available." Once i troubleshoot it the internet runs fine for a period of time, could be 30 seconds, could be 2 hours, but then it stops working again. I've searched online for weeks for a solution but nothing has worked. it's quite frustrating when your a big online gamer

any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I had this issue with my DV7 laptop for awhile. I did two things that cleared it up.
1.) I updated all the network drivers on my machine
2.) I updated the firmware on my router since the old software did not support IPv6.
Once I had these two items in place I have not received the error since. Give it a shot and let us know.

and i've already updated the network drivers severals times so that shouldn't be an issue.

i dont recognize any of those codes or numbers on the chart. i looked on a sticker on the modem though and found something that read "F/W: 4.0.16.1.55.5.1.1.2" i dont know if thats helpfull but i figured the F/W stood for firmware?

If you look at the bottom 2nd page and top of 3rd... You will see the F/W number but depending on who your ISP is is depending on what firmware you should upgrade too..

there are more numbers that come after: MI424WR

according to the PDF file.

it looks like its MI424WRN because the F/W matches it. The first time i looked at the PDF i didnt realise it had more pages haha, whoops.

Hello,

Please try these recommendations:

Make sure that 'Obtain DNS server address automatically' is selected from your Wireless connection. Here's how.

Remove your network encryption from the router, test your connection after. If you can't connect, try a WEP security.

Disable the problematic Wireless Network Adapter's power saving mode from Device Manager, locate the Network Adapter=> Wi-Fi Adapter=. Properties=> Power Management Tab, in here you may disable any Power Save mode options by unchecking them off.

Test your connections after, and if it's still an issue please provide the following:

Click on Start => in run or search box type cmd, press enter. Open up a command prompt, run as an Admin then Copy and Paste these ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt . Please attach the .txt file to be found in your Local Disk 'C' on your next post.

From your wireless computer pls. install and run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector.
Click on the 'Show Networks' to display all wireless networks on the xirrus icon on your desktop of if you have one running in a corner. Tap the Printscreen key on your keyboard, open up Paint then choose Edit from the Menu and select Paste, then SAVE it. Upload and attached it here, click on Go Advanced and locate Manage Attachments Tab and attached the file.
