Default Gateway Not Available - Connection keeps dropping

Hello everyone, I'm hoping that you can help me. I've lurked this forum for a long time.
This is a wired connection to the router/modem and I have also tried it on a different router.
I'll give a short version, then the lengthy background and what I have tried.

Short version: Any download of any size seems to trigger the connection to be dropped until I launch the trouble shooter which then resets the local area connection and gives the message in the subject plus "Fixed".

I noticed this happening with videos (any - CNN, Vimeo, YouTube, MSNBC, whatever), and then decided to test it by launching a game (Guild wars 2) because I KNEW it needed a patch. Sure enough, as soon as the download started - connection lost. Downloaded an extensive PDF - connection lost.

If I maintain just a browsing connection for text, I don't SEEM to have a problem. I just know what absolutely triggers it.

Background - This is a custom built rig that has always been rock solid. It has been upgraded through the years. Two weeks ago, I started getting BSODs which happened at different times: 5 minutes on, an hour, a day... and the reasons were varied: PFN_List Corrupt, memory management, others. SFC Check and Disk Check both found all sorts of errors. In the meantime, I tested with memtest86+ and discovered my RAM was bad. So, I fixed that, and also did a Repair Install with Win7 SP1 (found through here, thank you) as my original disk was Win7, without SP1 and it wouldn't repair install, obviously.

No more BSODs (THANK YOU), but this one new problem, the connection, has cropped up.

I have tried a Clean Boot - still happens.
I have done the TCP/IP reset using Microsoft's on "Fix It For you" tool.
I've done the ipconfig /all dns flush, renew and release.
I connected the computer to a different router.

Same issue

FYI - nothing else in the house has an issue. The laptops, tablets, smartphone and internet connected DVR/streamer all have NO problem. It is only THIS computer, connected by an ethernet cable directly to the modem/router.

Please let me know what you need and I will be happy to supply it.

Thanks, in advance.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Have you also updated the latest network adapter's driver? I don't know if I have missed this out in your post.

Have you changed the network cable? What category are you using? Cat5, Cat5e or Cat6? It is labeled on the cable itself.

Also, what type of network card or adapter are you using? make and model? Is this integrated or it's a PCI or PCIe card?

Well...I'm going to feel stupid now. Blinding error on my part. There was a driver update. I don't remember ever getting it before, but maybe I had, while Win7 had been updated continuously over time. I think we can mark it closed. So far it has stabilized. I've tried running two videos AND a download at the same time - rock solid.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

Anyways, for knowledge base purposes and to help others, if it can:
XFXForce/nForce 680i LT SLI Motherboard, with integrated network adapter. nVidia had the newer driver available at their site.

I had network cable out, ready to change as needed (one change at a time), but didn't need to.
