Delete partition

Also, when plugged back in (after install) it will force the new drive to act as D: or even E: because the CD/DVD drive will already be active

Before reattaching the original C: drive, the new drive should be given boot priority in the BIOS. If you boot to the new drive, the new Windows 7 will be C:. Then he can delete or reformat the original drive and use however he wishes.

If i've taken this the wrong way then I apologize in advance.....

There's no need to sound so patronizing, if he's not heard about this option (and I heven't either) then I don't believe talking to the OP like a child will solve anything....

Was not patronizing anybody.. but as stated you have not heard of that either. IT IS THE MICROSOFT WAY.
If I hurt someones feeling, I am sorry. I was only trying to show the Fastest, easiest and SAFEST method to:
1. Install Win 7 CLEAN
2. Remove all the old unwanted OS's.
3. Not JAM up the MBR on my System HDD.

I'm not sure anymore where this is documented in the MS site. but It is also the fastest method know method of doing.
If you have already deleted the windows.old (which it seems that many have major problems with doing) MS clean does it. No fuss no muss. Many options from MS are also included. there.. many many have no idea they are there and FREE installed with the OS.
clean install same HDD also makes it fool proof on not screwing the MBR.
wow nice, any way I think so.
so in about 35 min or so.
1. I have a perfect install of Windows 7 on my MBR HDD.
2. in approximately 5 to 10 minutes I have formatted the old Win7 HDD, its now perfectly CLEAN (depends on how big that HDD is.)
3. another 5 to 10 minutes I have removed the Windows.old (vista or XP)

4. WOW, less than 1 hour. I have installed Win7 Clean- removed all the old OS's.

Super I do not have to waste time on some forum asking how to do and then waiting for some tech to how to undo what is did wrong answer.
Then I'll get about 50 or 60 other ways.

Simply put : recommend the FASTEST, safest way - The Approved MS way.

Ok, looks like I misinterprited you :o

It is a sound idea though :p
