Solved Delete stings from ie Control Panel

Hello,

i want to delete some stings like this one here:



i could delete them in the shell32.dll.mui (replacing the sting via space like = " ") but after doing that a 1px space is left and when i point at it via my cursor i can still click the "link"

also there is a 2 line space like this (thats not the actual picture, but you should understand):



so is there a way to fix that?

You are only deleting the name. There will be some registry value that could possibly delete those but I don't know of it and a simple search didn't show me anything. I'll try to see if someone knows how to do that. It's easy to delete control panel items but I'm not sure about the links you want to delete. FWIW, both link to the same place, "System properties".

Well to start KrX you might have been better posting this in the Vista forum (it is a sister forum to this one and is at the top of this page) and ask there as folks in there would be still using Vista.
But I really am at a loss as to why you want to delete those ref points??

The shell32.dll.mui file supplies the strings specific to the language the computer is configured for. It does not provide any means of actually hiding the control the string is associated with.

What you are attempting is possible for dialog boxes but the window in question is not a dialog box. I don't know of any supported way of doing this and very much doubt such exists. It could be done with third party software but Microsoft strongly discourages this. Such solutions tend to be very fragile and could break with even a Windows update. I know of none and doubt such exists.

Microsoft does not have unlimited resources and they must choose where they can be used to best effect. There are many implications in providing such customization and the cost high. Considering that few people would desire this feature it was not provided. I think it a wise choice.

sorry i copied the screenshot from the internet just to show you what i want, im using win7 professional

and i want to delete them because i removed a lot of funktions (with winreducer and myself) and clicking on this strings cause errors

so here is an image i did myself



and as you can see at the left bottom there arent any strings (because i removed the windows update feature etc), but normaly there are WIndows Updates and some other strings there.

so there should be a way to do this

Are you locking this down to be a workstation with limited access or are you just doing this for yourself?

this will be my personal windows on my notebook, i managed to reduce windows 7 x64 to 1Gb (installed) and now i want to fix some cosmetic bugs

See if group policy might offer what you want to hide those items. They will still be there, but disabled.....

As stated though I don't think there is a way this can be achieved with it disappeared entirely unless group policy offers that setting.

I was poking around Group policy and I didn't find anything. Could be wrong though.

i got no luck because it seems that systemcpl.dll at UIFILE is only this part:

but there is a strange thing, i searched the hole systemcpl.dll and
systemcpl.dll.mui and i couldnt find this file in it:
SystemPropertiesProtection.exe (which is is the system protection link on the left)

but i used the tool Agent Ransack which search files and also looks in files, and this tool says that the systemcpl.dll comtains this string...

so maybe someone know how .dll files could be opend in another was so i can find this string?

(i hope you understand what i mean, because english is not my first language)

Ok mate I was just wondering why as they don't particularly bother me but I am just your average user and you have explained the reasons why you want to do the change although I don't fully understand them.
But I meant no offence asking what I did just me being a tad curious to the query

its ok i got it, needed the tool FlexHex and removed the string myself.

and no i dont got a wrecked system just a reduced windows which works 100% for my purpose

Well I guess the least you could do or personally do is do a registry back up it only takes a few seconds to do and at then you will have some thing to revert to and start again.
