Hi

A couple of months ago I had to take my HP TouchSmart in to get a new fan put in, when It came back it had a user account called 'test' on it. I assumed the repair guys set it up to test something but I've tried deleting it and it just shows back up at the next login. As far as I can see there's nothing on it so I don't know why it won't delete, does someone know how I can get rid of it?

Thanks

I tried deleting it in both the users accounts and in the elevated command prompt, as I can't use the local users and groups option. With both the test user reappears at startup...

Kat,

In User Accounts (control panel), what type (ex: Standard user or Administrator) does it have for the "Test" user account?

As a test, see if using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below with the command below in a elevated command prompt to disable the "Test" user account may allow you to be able to delete the user account, and delete it's C:\Users\Test folder afterwards.

Net user "Test" /active:no

The test user is an administrator.

I disabled the account before deleting but it still reappeared at start up.

Thanks for all your help

Are you part of a domain or workgroup?

Does the account remain disabled?

Just as a test, enable the built-in Administrator account to see if you may be able to delete "Test" while logged in the built-in "Administrator" account, and still have it deleted after a restart.

Hi Brink

No I'm not part of a domain or workgroup.

The account does not remain disabled, once the computer is restarted it shows up again at login.

I tried deleting the account through both the control panel and command prompt in the built in admin account but both times it reappeared after restart.

I don't see anything that is a threat in the log file. :)

You might go back to where you took it, and ask them what this test account is for and remove if possible.
