Solved Deleting corrupt file record segment

Hi

Last night I turned off my W7 PC and when I just turned it on it ran checkdisk
for a minute then launched into

"deleting corrupt file record segment" and so far has deleted 170,000 segments.

What does this mean and do I have to leave it running until it finishes?

Any comments or advice appreciated.

Yes leave it running until it completes. Interrupting could result in corruption.

Uh Oh

It's possible one of your HDDs is failing.
You should consider getting a new HDD to replace the one that generated the errors.

You may discover some files are broken.
I hope you have some Backup Images.

Once Check Disk finishes you should try to create a backup of your (remaining) data.

the strange thing is that it was the backup drive, attached through eSATA that was being scanned.

Does the POST look at attached drives when it runs?

Also both HDDs passed Seatools DOS version tests

I'm not sure.

As a rule, I don't start my PC with external USB drives connected (I don't have any eSATA drives).

I sometimes see messages (in Windows) asking me to run Check Disk when I connect external drives.
