Deleting Windows 7 Mountpoint 2 folder from registry

Gents,

Quick question....

Can you delete the Mountpoints2 folder located at

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2


in the registry? I already clean the Mountpoint folder manually but can't find a program to clean this entry and it's subkeys. Windows should remake that folder on boot-up as it does for Mountpoint and it should have no effect on system operation.

If anyone knows of a program that cleans these entries please let me know as it's likely any mounted device/volume has more registry entries elsewhere.

Make a register key backup (right mouse - export). If something goes wrong you can restore it.
CClener can look for unused register keys. It will ask if you want to save those keys as a backup, so do it.
CCleaner - Standard.
Once installed, go to Options - Monitoring and disable all.

Thanks Mega....but that's not quite what I'm asking. I already use CCleaner, Shellbag cleaner...etc but any registry cleaner will not touch used items or items it THINKS are in use in that key.

Example:

With the MountedDevices folder located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices you can view all devices and volumes that have been mounted since the install of Windows 7. This key can be deleted in the cleanup process and windows will remake the key with just the connected devices.

So say I used a USB stick or mounted an encrypted volume 5 months ago......that info will be there if that registry key is not cleaned. Once cleaned (manually deleted) and the PC rebooted the key only contains info on the currently connected drives and all info is updated to current dates/time meaning any drive or USB entries that it had for earlier dates has been erased. Registry cleaners will ignore this key because it's an active key but the info each key contains can be removed and replaced with new current info so anything opened/mounted previously will not be displayed.

I was just curious about cleaning the Mountpoint2 folder the same way as both keys are inter-related and I read a post about someone deleting that key and then had an issue with windows popping up multi windows afterwards which is why I'm asking before deleting it.

It's all about security.....as even on a drive that has been encrypted this key can be accessed remotely on a compromised system once the drive is loaded/unencrypted but by removing that data it contains no info other then the currently connected drives/volumes (no past data or access times)
