Solved Dell 7060 - is it possible? How? ACPI error.

Greetings, everyone.

I happened to have a Dell 7060 fall into my lap for a song. I need to know if it's somehow possible, through whatever trickery, to get WIN7 installed on it. If not, I'll repair my 9020 and use that, instead. I would like the 7060 for the six-core processor, if I can get it. It has an internal SSD of 512GB, but I also have a few spare platter HDD's lying around, and a portable hard drive as well that's not being used, if I need to install it somewhere else and just migrate the WIN7'd hard drive to the new chassis.

I have the issue of an ACPI error when I try to load the WIN7 installer through the USB (2.0) port from a flash drive directly on to the 7060. I'm getting the 0x0~A5 error, specifically. I've searched the forums and found similar, but not same, cases of hardware issues. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get! Even if it's a "No, this will never work, no matter what you do."

Thanks to anyone that stops by to help.

Okay, so, the answer is a firm "NO! IS NOT POSSIBLE!"

And there's no fun little hacks available to make this possible, either.

I have heard that you're pretty much the authority on this sort of thing, so I'll take your word at it. Thank you very much for responding to my inquiry. I will say, that page never came up in any of my Google/Bing/Startpage searches, and I've been looking for the last couple of days.

As a side question, would you know of any 6+ core processors that can be used with WIN7? Just wondering - something for the future.

Once again, my sincerest thanks.

I would guess what works for the vostro 3670/71 also works for the optiplex 7060. Same oem, same chipset series, same cpu series.

Oh, I didn't know that. I read the posts that said it was impossible on a 7060 - I had no idea a Vostro 3670 even existed, let alone that it was the same thing with a different name.

So, I'm guessing, I take this TIBX file.. and.. install it on something, pop it in to my 7060, and it should work? After re-reading the entire thread (now that you pointed out the Vostro and the Dell are the same thing, it made more sense, I apologize for not making this connection sooner), I gather this is what I need to do?

Fascinating! I totally drew the wrong conclusion from that thread. Again, my apologies, and my sincerest thanks.

I apologise for this taking so long to confirm. The file is in TIBX format, and I'm having a heck of a time trying to find Acronis True Image. The website itself just gives me 403 errors, and I have no idea why.

Both links I gave you in my PM work just fine for me in portable Firefox. Here they are again, they point to the same file.
http://dl.acronis.com/s/AcronisTrueImage2021_39287.iso
or
https://download.acronis.com/AcronisTrueImage2021_39287.iso

Here's how you can install Ventoy on a USB flash drive.
Get start . Ventoy
As explained in the notes,
4. After install, you can manually reformat the Ventoy partition with exFAT/FAT32/NTFS/UDF/XFS/Ext2/3/4
So, I suggest to reformat the exFAT partition to NTFS then, even though this is only just an optional step.

Finally, you can directly copy the downloaded bootable ISO file to the USB flash drive, and just boot from the USB flash drive (assuming you already know how). The rest should be pretty much self-explanatory IMO.

Aside from the bootable ISO file I linked to, you can put anything you like on the USB flash drive like normal (as long as you've got enough available free space on it at least). Just to give you some basic idea of what else can be achieved with Ventoy, you can put multiple different bootable image files on the USB flash drive if needed, also including (but not limited to) bootable WIM files, the latter type of bootable image files you can boot into after you also download and install the Wimboot plugin for Ventoy from the Ventoy website. However, to be able to boot into bootable ISO files with Ventoy, no plugin is required. Moreover, you need to install Ventoy on the USB flash drive only one time. I.e., before you copy your files/folders to it. It really is extremely easy IMO.

Yeah, I love Ventoy, use it myself. Just used it a few days ago to run Memtest86 and test some RAM I bought on eBay for a Mini ITX computer I'm putting together as an ARK Survival Evolved server.

At archive.org many people have their own little Windows live ISOs and I've been playing with some of those.

My apologies, I've been exceedingly busy with Real Life over the last couple of days, and haven't had a chance to try anything. I will report in when I have the chance. My thanks to everyone for their help.

I'm sorry, sir. Ventoy doesn't seem to recognize the TIBX file that I have. It's useless to me, or I don't understand how to use it. You may use it every day, but this is my first time, and this interface is anything but accessible to a first time end-user. It's quite confusing, and unclear. I don't think Ventoy is going to solve my problem, unless you can explain specifically how I can get Ventoy to read the TIBX file that I have, and install it on a hard drive. The guide you linked me to, does not explain things in a way I can understand - what do I do with the TIBX file? What purpose does Ventoy serve in the process of getting the TIBX file to read on my computer, so I can see the files inside of it, and ensure everything is correct within that TIBX file, which contains a version of Windows 7 that should work on my new hardware?

I apologize for my lack of experience with these tools, and my lack of knowledge in this area. Would the Acronis Rescue Disks that you linked me to, be able to read the TIBX file, and allow me to examine it? It doesn't seem like rescue disks would have that kind of capability, but I may be wrong. I want to make sure before I spend several hours downloading the file.

ventoy does not read tibx files.

ventoy creates a usb stick onto which lots of different iso files can be copied.

*************************************************************************************

After the bootable usb stick has been created with ventoy, just copy and paste the acronis .iso file onto it.

then boot from the usb stick and select the acronis iso from the menu

acronis will load from the iso and it is acronis that can deal with tibx files.

The acronis main window will have buttons on it saying things like backup and another button will say restore ( or something similar)

select the one that says restore and it will open a browse window. Browse to the tibx file.

then you need tell it where to restore the image to.

****************************************************************************************

I expect that tibx file is a disk image therefore you will need a blank disk attached to the machine to restore it onto.

or a disk with stuff on it that you don't want because it will be overwritten by the restore.

Make sure you point the acronis restore process at the correct disk. It will probably ask you to confirm before it proceeds with the restore.

Sir, thank you. I was completely confused about all of this - your instructions make perfect sense. I can't thank you enough. I will try this as soon as I can. I have several spare USB sticks and some extra DVD-R's - does it matter if it's a USB stick or a DVD-R that I restore the TIBX file, to?

restore it to a disk , not a disc. Either sata ssd, nvme ssd , or mechanical hard disk .

It is an image of a working operating system and necessary partitions.

I dont know how big the disk should be - at least 256gb I would think. You will find out the size of the disk when you look at the tibx with acronis.

Aha! Thank you! I thought that might be what you meant, but I wasn't sure - since we'd been talking about USB sticks. This is no problem, I have three spare Hard Drives of various size, and an SSD inside the new host computer if I need it. I shall report back once I have something to report. My thanks again! You have no idea what this means to me.
