Solved Dell Desktop not starting

a very old Dell Desktop of my friend only show Dell Logo at startup and then blank screen

i put windows XP CD in CD ROM but nothing happens

last thing my friend did was trying to setup networking on the system

Try loading defaults in BIOS (or a CMOS reset if you can't enter BIOS).

i have no idea where the BIOS or CMOS is in motherboard

BIOS is reached from the very first screen when you start up your PC. On screen it should say which key to press to enter Setup. Acording to Tips N Tricks: Comprehensive List of How (Key to Press) to Access BIOS for Various OEM and Computer Systems it should be F2 for you.

For CMOS reset check your PC manual.

my friend replaced the system RAM and it is fine now
