Hi All,
A friend I work with asked me to check out this laptop that belongs to her daughter. She said the touchpad wasn't functioning properly, previously her older daughter had been using this laptop. This laptop is currently running windows 7 home premium 64-bit, w/service pack 1 edition. The older daughter has one user account setup on this machine..she is listed as the administrator. The second daughter has her own account and is listed as a standard account. The first thing I did upon checking out the the issue with this machine is update the Synaptics Touchpad software to the latest version available for this machine (V7.2). What is really strange to me is the fact that the touchpad seems to function correctly on the administrator account, but when I switch to the other user account (standard user) it doesn't function correctly like it does on the administrator account. To be honest..I changed the standard user account to a administrator account temporarily so I could at least have access to run some test on the system..( namely, sfc /scannow ). After doing so I was informed no problems were found, I can plug in a usb mouse to a usb port on the machine and it seems to function correctly. I'm at the point now I don't know what to do as I've never ran into this issue before. That's why I thought I'd see if anyone else has had this issue before.
Thanks,
David

Hi Davy,
sounds like the user profile is corrupt delete, the second daughters profile, reboot and set up a new one.

Hi Roy,
I really feel kind of stupid at the moment..I went back into control panel under mouse..and when I clicked on touchpad setting's, I noticed the 'tapping' setting was not checked. Once I checked it and applied the settings the touchpad seems to be working again. Thanks for trying to help me.
David :D
