Dell latitude E6420,

Installing a new copy of Windows 7, with a original copy that works, tested on another PC.

The laptop is loading up "press any key to boot from CD" but afterwards there is just a black blank screen, with the top left line flashing, and it just stays stuck like that.
It booted up into the old windows install fine before, I've also tried a copy of Windows 10 and it does the same.

I've run the Dell tests, and it says the dvd drive is running fine, and I've had no problems with it.

My problem now is I messed up the old windows install, resizing the partition, and now it won't even boot into the old one, but that would be fine if it would load from the windows DVD. However despite what I've just done, the problem is exactly the same, before, and after.

Any idea's?

Strangely, despite waiting over 30 minutes on 2 different occasions I've got it to boot.

I tried pressing various keys, nothing, and then I just tried ejecting the DVD drive, and then it came up with the boot options, and then I pushed the DVD drive back in, and selected my desired option, and then it was loading windows files, and now black screen again. I'll let it run and see if anything happens.

Sorted now, kind of.

Had to wait an extra long time for anything to be loaded, there is something wrong with the dvd drive that is causing it be very slow with any DVD's, but I can't find any error's anywhere, but replacement needed.

Thanks.

I am also one that like a working CD/DVD player.

Things I would check first would be all connections from and to the DVD player.
If that didn't work I would check the media.

How did you come by your copies of Windows 7 Ultimate?

It would be handy if we knew your system specs.

Use this tutorial by Brink.

Yes, how else would it work? And what has that got to do with my issue? Is this an interrogation?

Having a good copy of Windows 7 is easy to get. Getting the proper matching COA key is what is hard to come by.

That is why I asked the question.

Most companies (old job) don't give away $300.00 Windows operating system. You have been one of the luck ones.
