Dell Webcam and Sound Recorder no sound

I tried to record video with Dell Webcam (video works ok), also tried the Sound Recorder, but no sound on playback for either. Media Player plays sound. Sound works on Skype also. Sound folder is attached. What could be wrong?

Enable and set the Stereo Mix as the default Recording device as a first step.

The Stereo Mix is needed to record any audio from the internet, along with recording audio in many other programs.

Thanks for your quick reply. I think that Stereo Mix has always been disabled. I have downloaded YouTube video/music files without a problem. Is this the same as "recording"? I enabled it and tried both Webcam and the Sound Recorder. Neither one played sound. Could the Stereo Mix be for external mic? The icon looks like a sound card. I have the built in mic and webcam. I put Stereo Mix back to disabled. There must be something else amiss.

With Stereo Mix, set as default recording device, any audio that is heard on the PC's speakers can be recorded. e.g. if the webcam is used (and identified as a sound device) then it can be heard and recorded (provided the recording program has the Stereo Mix set as the source which is usually the case).

Back to the webcam, when you enable it, it should show up as a recording device.

Sound recorder should be set for Stereo Mix, but I'll have to change OS back to Win 7 to see what it actually does (I'm on Windows 10 right now).

A comment on your CPU temp. The all in one desktop systems are basically a laptop with a desktop screen and keyboard. Laptops can run hotter. However, how are you monitoring the CPU temp? There are several CPU temperature monitoring utilities available such as "Real Temp" Real Temp - CPU temperature monitoring

Update, I changed to Win 7 OS. The sound recorder will record from any available recording device. Stereo Mix is set in my system and that is what it uses as the source. I could connect a mic but it would actually get the sound via the Stereo Mix.

I use to do support on the Dell forums and Stereo Mix is what everyone wanted. Stereo Mix was previously called System Mixer or in the case of Creative/SoundBlaster it was called "What You Hear".

Thanks again. As I said, I tried that enable without success so I give up. I doubt a restart after the enable would be necessary?? Recording a video with the Dell Webcam is not that important and the sound recorder even less so. If someone more knowledgeable than I were actually here at my computer maybe he could figure it out.

I relayed the temp info to Dell once while on another issue. They didn't seem concerned. FYI I use Speccy. See attachment for clip of Speccy screenshot just taken.

I don't know what the upper limits are on the CPU temperature. I know the Intel CPU's have temperature sensors. If it gets to a certain point it will slow down and if it gets to the maximum point it will shut down.

I have an i7 3770 but its in a desktop with liquid cooling. It idles around 30 degrees Celsius, generally in low/mid 30's C, and max I've ever seen was mid 40's C and that was when running my recording studio software with a heavy load. When I had "air" (heatsink and fan) cooling it idled in the 40's C and would go up to close to 60 C.

CPU temperature monitoring programs can vary from one to the other. I have Speccy and other temp programs.

UPDATE: I found this on a site that was evaluating your Dell XPS
The 27" XPS One runs really hot due to its fan profile that favors pleasant acoustics over comfortable thermals. We could have forced the fan to ramp up a little sooner at higher ambient temperatures, though. Doing so would have taken those temperature results down at the expense of more fan noise.
