[FONT=&quot]Hello everyone,[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]I'm having a problem with my PC freezing and sometimes crashing and rebooting itself. For example, I left the PC running the other night and noticed it had restarted at some point. I checked the Windows log and noticed the errors "The previous system shutdown at 6:39:12 AM on ‎12/‎3/‎2013 was unexpected." logged at 12/3/2013 6:57:54 AM and[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." logged at 12/3/2013 6:57:35 AM.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] The only errors I see prior to that are "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk6\DR6." logged at 12/2/2013 1:49:41 PM [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]and [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] "The Intel(R) Management & Security Application User Notification Service service depends on the Intel(R) Management and Security Application Local Management Service service which failed to start because of the following error: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." logged at 12/2/2013 11:44:37 AM. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]and a warning[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]"[/FONT][FONT=&quot]The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device WpdBusEnumRoot\UMB\2&37c186b&0&STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN_GENERIC-&PROD_COMPACT_FLASH&REV_1.01#18E391066476&1#." logged 12/2/2013 11:42:35 AM.[/FONT][FONT=&quot][/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]FWIW, the last event listed prior to the 6:39 AM unexpected shutdown was "The WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service entered the stopped state." which was logged at 12/3/2013 6:36:39 AM". [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
Can these types of errors and warnings cause the system crashes I'm experiencing? I'm doubting it only because they occur hours before the system actually crashes. The disc referred to in the error with the ID of DR6 is an external USB drive that I hardly ever use. I accessed msconfig and restarted [FONT=&quot] Intel(R) Management & Security Application User Notification Service , rebooted but the PC has still since locked up. I googled the error that refers to the driver but didn't come up with much useful information I believe the driver error is referring to my ATI Radeon 5450 display adapter but the drivers for it are up-to-date. Also, it seems the PC freezes more often when I run Dragon Naturally Speaking dictation software. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]
I've also ran CHKDSK as well as memtest86+ and both came out fine. If there's any info y'all can provide on fixing this problem it would be greatly appreciated!

It appears to be some driver issue. Enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers. It may help us point out the failing one.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any. Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Thanks for the reply. I did what you suggested and when the PC rebooted, it immediately flashed a BSOD and Windows then started in safe mode. It started w/an option to attempt to repair the reboot problem. I selected OK and checked the list of actions performed and the last was sys. restore was successful. The PC rebooted as usual after that. I ran the SF Diagnostic Tool and attached the output.

[FONT=&quot]Thanks again![/FONT]

I am sorry to say it, mate; but the fact is, the crash dump is not recorded. If the BSOD appears before you get into the desktop, then it does not record the dump.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link.It will open the system configuration window, with the "general" tab selected.
    • Click the "startup" tab. Click "Disable all" > Apply > OK.
    • Click on "services" tab. Check the "Hide all Microsoft Services"; Click "Disable all" > Apply > OK
  3. Accept then restart.
Then try to Enable Driver Verifier again. Make it sure that you are not selecting any driver provided by "microsoft" or "unknown" in the list.

Hopefully this time we will get a crash dump.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did what you suggested and it seems like it worked, sys crashed a few min. after boot up. I've attached the .zip file. FWIW, seems like Firefox is always the 1st to crash.

Thanks!

Unfortunately no crash dump is recorded.
View attachment 296936

Follow it: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Then try to enable driver verifier again.

Seeing this one in the event log.

Description:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk6\DR6.
Your storage controller is Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO SATA RAID Controller.

We know that RAID is problematic, and any form of Intel RST is also problematic too. But altering it to anything else should be out last step, as it will involve a clean reinstall.

In this time, you try to update Intel RAID from Dell.

Let us know the results.

I was checking event viewer and noticed the error "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000050 (0xffffbca05827d768, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff80003449992, 0x0000000000000007). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 121213-21294-01." I've ran the SF tool and attached the zip, I hope this helps. Thanks again!

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :

  • Download and execute Driverview
  • View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
  • Edit > Select all
  • File > Save Selected Items
  • In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
  • Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Let us know the results.

Each and every driver is very old. But the special attention goes to the RAID.
Code:
Service Display Name: Intel RAID Controller Windows 7
Modified Date     : [COLOR=Red]3/11/2011[/COLOR] 1:41:26 AM
Created Date      : 4/26/2011 6:32:20 PM
Filename          : C:\Windows\system32\drivers\iaStorV.sys
In this situation it is better to go for a clean install; but not as it is.
Boot into the BIOS. Disable all RAID/Intel Smart Response/SCSI options there. Set the storage controller (SATA) mode to AHCI.

Then do a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html
