....

I will pretend thats not there.

So this is sounding like a graphics driver or incompatibility. Looks like we will need to wait on a new graphics driver. For now, you could install the older graphics driver and see if the problem persists.

I've had this same problem. It was driving me nuts. All I knew is I would wake up from idle, and be froze. Could move the mouse, but couldnt get Windows 7 to do anything or respond and had to reboot. Thankfully this thread made it so I could leave my computer on. I have just set the auto-hide to be off.

I installed the latest Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB974431). Even though this made no mention of fixing this issue, it seemed to have worked for me. Has anyone else tested?

yeah this occurs with or without the latest ATI drivers installed. i suspect it's because my video card is old now and considered legacy, so there's no official Windows 7 drivers for it yet.

Ill bump this because there are some missconeptions.

for most (all?):

Changing drivers does not matter.
Updating to all hotfixes (also semi offical ones) does not matter, sometimes it seems like some hotfix fixes issue for "sleep or two", but it eventualy comes back
Fresh install, with default MS drivers only no other software only change you do is to decrease sleep time (for speed up testing) and turn on autohide task bar OR fully usable system with software and drivers - does not matter
ATI or nVidia does not matter
Intel chipset with Intel CPU or AMD chipset with AMD cpu (some notebook) does not matter
1GB of ram or 6GB no difference

basickly its issue with acpi/windows explorer that still isnt fixed till today and everyone can get. OH THE JOY! Lets all go spam MS customer support! I WANT MY AUTOHIDE TASKBAR BACK!!!

however i noticed something today (since new updates where released yesterday did clean reformat and decided to test this issue again), im having G15 keyboard with LED display and noticed today that if during autohide taskbar and sleep CPU does not idle (usage is around 20-25%). And desktop is frozen until CPU does not idle.

edit: this 2nd thing might be unreleated, because i have high cpu usage for a while with taskbar shown as well. However since this is happening during monitor sleep i have no idea what process is causing it.

Try this one. Right click desktop, left click gadgets, left double click headlines. Worked for me . I have auto hide the task bar and turn off display after 15 minutes.
Nothing else seems to fix it .

im sure this is just because you let something "runing" in this case feeds gadget, not because problem would be fixed... i dont want gadgets! i want clean desktop with least icons/bloat as possible :)

Having same issue...

Hello all,

I have been having this issue for the last couple days and it has become quite an annoyance. I did an upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit in early December 2009, and did not start getting this problem until a couple days ago.

In response to the suggestions on updating video card drivers, I have done so. I have also updated my BIOS to the latest version. I also had Hibernate disabled on my machine for about the last month, but the problem did not start that far back.

To restate the issue... my computer is set to turn off hard disks and display after 5 minutes on battery and after 20 minutes while plugged in. I do have "auto-hide the taskbar" enabled. I do use an external monitor, but the problem persists whether or not the monitor is hooked up to the computer. As soon as the screen turns off (after 5 minutes on battery or 20 minutes on ac power), the problem begins. Whether I press a button or move the mouse 5 minutes later or an hour later, the screen wakes up and the mouse pointer moves around, but nothing responds for a good few minutes. The time it takes the computer to respond seems to depend on how long the screen has been turned off.

Another suggestion I followed was disabling the "auto-hide the taskbar" feature, and this was successful in fixing the problem. However, it is an annoyance since I have been using auto-hide forever.

This seems to be an issue a lot of people are experiencing, regardless of graphics card manufacturer, drivers, and/or BIOS version. I think it might have something to do with the power management options or just a regular old windows glitch. Hopefully an update will come out soon to fix this.

I have attached a screenshot of my system information for anyone who might be able to shed anymore light on this.

Thanks.

Fixed!

Frostmourne,

I went back to the PC Manufacturer's Website (HP) to look at the list of available driver upgrades. I downloaded and installed the most recent audio driver, and what do you know, problem fixed! I never would have expected that to be the case, but it appears that it worked. I'll post back if the problem shows up again.

Thank You.

Its not drivers... It CANT be drivers. Im geting this on HP laptop (intel cpu/chipset + intel intergrated graphic card), my PC (intel cpu/chipset nvidia graphic card), another pc that my brother have (intel cpu/chipset nvidia graphic card), laptop "for experimenthing" (amd chipset/cpu sempron, ati integrated graphic card) and desktop "for experimenting" (amd chipset/cpu, ati/nvidia graphic card - depends on a month pretty much and which one i borrow around) - last 2 computers runing x86 version, rest x64. Again its NOT DRIVERS, components in all computers are all over the place. And for those who know me, considering im installing latest beta beta of everything, you think i dont have drivers as well "latest latest beta" :) Before someone claims its because of this... ITS NOT. Also tryed with "latest offical". I can also TELL you when this problem started, sometimes around build 7048-7068. Back then i actualy knew in what build specificaly (you had 3 builds leaked at that point 7048, 7057, 7068), but sorry im geting old and my memory dont serve me well anymore, so cant be more specific :) Before that certain build autohide/monitor sleep was working normaly.... so please can someone more tell us to update drivers? ITS MS SCREWUP, that they didnt manage to fix for a year.... siigh!

sorry about bit hostile post, but im geting annoyed by this bug. I also reported it to MS. What mostly pisses me off is, until product was in beta i was saying to my self "its beta, bugs are expected", then RTM came and i was like "WTF noone from 100k of MS emplyes is using autohide taskbar?!", now 6 months after RTM there isnt even KB article about it. Like im only one geting this and its obvious im not... So people start spaming MS about this!

Any news on this?? I'm getting the same thing here. Only on my desktop though, two laptops come out of monitor off and autohide on just fine. Another thing confusing, when I was running the RC on the desktop, I never had this problem.
