Hello,

I chose to have the desktop toolbar on the task bar as you can see from the picture below but I'm having two problems:

1. When I click on the arrows part it shows me a list of the stuff on my desktop but I can't scroll down the list using my laptop touch-pad scroll bar (which works on every other application). So I have to navigate to the bottom all the time and click on the down arrow (very annoying!).
2. I want to get rid of the 'Desktop' written in the white text if possible. thx :)

right click on taskbar and un check lock taskbar
then right click on the seperator next to the text that says desktop. then uncheack show text.

do the up down keys work to scroll down the list?

1. When I unchecked 'show text', a little libraries shortcut appeared which can't be deleted (I tried to right-click but no delete option given, also cannot move seperator anymore to the right). See pic below. How do I get rid of this thing!

2. Yes I can use the up/down keyboard keys to scroll but I'd love to use the touchpad scroll function instead.

go to the folder for the desktop toolbar and choose organise then properties then customize... change folder picture. Best I can think of for that.
not sure about the mouse pad. have to get back on that.

I might have a theory about the mouse pad. My laptop is a Dell M1530 which is quite recent but the mousepad drivers only go up to Vista. I installed these Vista drivers fine on Win7 32-bit(without choosing Vista compatability mode) so everything was fine. But since this desktop toolbar is a new feature of Win7 I'm thinking maybe the drivers aren't optimised or something?

And I don't understand about this changing picture of folder thing. No idea where to click to do this and anyway wouldn't it just change the pic instead of removing the thing?!

I do not understand this whole story. When I click on my toolbars chevrons, all the entries appear. No need to scroll. Did you create the toolbar from a seperate folder (which you should). The folder holds the shortcuts and can reside in any place. Then you can also name/rename the folder to e.g. just one letter or a dot.

PS: This happens to be the Prgms toolbar.

In Vista, I did not need toolbars because we had a functioning Quick Launch and I mainly used the AppLauncher in the sidebar. I still use the Applauncher in 32bit Win7, but in 64bit, it does not work.

Me too , I do not have 1 icon on my desktop. I love it when I see someone with 50 or so icons on their desktop. But that`s their choice.

OK if you click on the control panel icon it opens the condensed control panel, was anyone able to delete that one and put the icon that opens the expanded control panel . And I don`t mean the large icon on the taskbar. I can get that icon there.

For some strange reason, on mine, there are 2 control panel icons. 1 opens the category view, the other opens the icon view

There`s just gotta be a way to delete some of these , I really don`t want the recycle bin icon there. And If you make your other taskbar icons small , I usually like them large ( bad eyes ya know ) they all blend together.

lol I think I should been a little clearer!

Please follow these steps to get in my situation:

In Windows 7 --> right-click on the start button and click on 'Properties' --> click on 'Toolbars' --> check the 'Desktop' box and press OK.

Now you've entered a world of pain. A stupid 'Desktop' writing has appeared reminding me that the button is for the desktop which I already knew. Don't bother trying to get rid of the writing, if you do then Win7 will get angry and torture you some more.

After clicking on this new button which has correctly appeared, I get a nice pop-up listing everything on my desktop and every item is clickable which is nice. Only 1 slight problem though, I have 23 billion things on my desktop so I must scroll down the pop-up list but I can't because for some reason the scroll function on my touchpad doesn't work, even though it works on every other program/other part of Windows 7.

If you right click the desktop toolbar you'll see "show title". Untick it.
