Is there the strong probability that if I reformat and reinstall the OS the problem will still be there. That is if I can get hold of a Windows 7 Home premium disc.
Would I be better off getting a new MB that will fit the case and a new OEM version of Windows? This would be cheaper than buying a whole new PC.

If you want to purchase a new mb you'd have to purchase one that is from ACER . The retail MBs won't fit inside . OEM motherboards are ment for their cases .

Nothing lost if I do attempt a reinstall but I don't think it will work beause the hardware issue will be the same. Will need to discuss options with owner.
Just need to make sure I backed up everything a listed in your latest link

Clicked Solved before I clicked "Post Quick Reply" so that was 5 min I'll never get back...
Anyway...
Ended up using Acer eRecovery to return the PC back to the original state and this time the network was restored. But good grief, all the bloadware that came along with it and all of it expired no less. After 2 days of updating and restarting, the network is still humming along. Thanks for all the help though...
