I am having a problem related to device manager on my laptop under Win 7. When I select Computer/Manage on the laptop, I receive the message 'The specified path does not exist' from the application Explorer.exe. This also occurs if I go to control panel and select device manager. I ran sfc /scannow and it is reporting that the software is OK.

1) Did you make any changes prior to the issue occurring?
2) Check for any errors in Event Viewer.
Follow the steps from the below link:

Open Event Viewer

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/226084-event-viewer-open-use-windows-7-a.html

As a test:

Using Windows 7, In the start search box, enter 'devmgmt.msc' and check if it opens there.

Have a look and see if you have this file :
C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc

1. Click start

2. In the search box, type 'run'

3. enter 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc' and check if the file is present.

Your awesome for reading this.
I resolved the problem. sfc /scannow did not find anything. Norton Anti-virus did not fix the problem. But Norton Power Eraser found 3 bad entried in the registry. After I had Power Eraser remove these three registry values, the device manager started up normally.
