Solved Device Manager - Disabled devices re-enable on restart

Using this thread for reference, because it deals with the same issue pretty much, but in a different way.

Since that thread, I have purchased a new computer, and used that graphic card in it. I had the same issue, and used the same method to fix it. My brother got my old computer.

A few months ago I purchased a video card to replace the one in the thread. I then handed that graphic card down to my brothers machine (giving him the exact same system I used to have basically)

The work around in the thread is not permanently working on my brothers computer anymore. Disabling the 'High Definition Audio Controller' fixes the slow down issue that I used to have, and we did that through the Device Manager. However, whenever he shuts down, or reboots, that 'High Definition Audio Controller' is always enabled again.

I don't know why something would just re-enable itself. I've never had it happen on my machine. He's getting frustrated. I'm getting frustrated. Anyone with answers?

Having the same problem as you I was very relieved to find this registry edit fix that permanently disables the HD audio controller :

"I have tried to uninstall them in device manager....disable them in device manager yet when I re-boot...TADAAAA there they are again!!
Surely there must be a way to get rid of them?
You can disable them by editing two registry keys.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\HDAudBus\Start=4
This value disables the High Definition Audio Controller in the device manager > system devices, it needs to be disabled.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\HdAudAddService\Start=4
This value disables the High Definition Audio Device/ATI HDMI Audio Device. You don't have to uninstall the devices first and this will also free up an IRQ. After a reboot the devices will show a yellow exclamation point but you can ignore that."

To edit these two values click the start button then type regedit.
Double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet, then services.
Click HdAudAddService, then right click Start under the Name column on the right - click Modify, change the value from 3 to 4 and OK.
Click HDAudBus, then right click Start under the Name column on the right - click Modify, change the value from 3 to 4 and OK.
Reboot

Thanks a bunch! Applied the fix and it works like a charm! Now I can actually shut the computer down instead of hibernating it lol

I don't want to necro an old thread, but the issues persist even through Windows 10.

For all users running on NVIDIA GPU's I'm posting the corresponding registry entries for you:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NVHDA
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvvad_WaveExtensible
