Dial up connection problems

Hi having continual problems with dial up connections as in pic below. My ISP is the Post Office UK who have to keep resetting them every day or so yet it crashes soon afterwards, and not working again today after resetting yesterday. Also I've no idea if the WiFi is causing the problem etc.

I'm no expert at all so no idea what's causing this so any help would be much appreciated thanks....

All I can say from your description of symptoms is that as the Post Office are regularly resetting the system at their end, they believe the issue to be in their Hardware or Software. I do not see any reasonable check for you to try that they would not have already tried.

I am assuming that you are still using Dial-up for a specific purpose, (I See there is a broadband connection on your system ), As Dial-Up was never as reliable as modern broadband, (and other systems such as Fibre Etc), and relied (relies) on good copper lines to work efficiently, It could be that looking into updating the hardware in use to work with modern options would be worthwhile.

If it is a locational issue that forces you to use an older dial up system, there are satellite, options - satellite is used for download and a regular broadband for upload, although these systems are specialist and not cheap to run

Thanks. Not very good on terminology as not a techie on anything so no idea why Dial-up is mentioned if I've already got broadband ?

I'm close to Exmoor so 10 -20 kbs a sec is nothing unusual at all, however BT did put in a new broadband cabinet late last year but as I'd finally got rid of them and their endless junk mail etc. a few years ago I'm never using them again. Also being semi retired I'd rather not spend on anything too expensive nowadays....

You can get 30 met broadband now probably cheaper than dial up some do a satellite dish as well

I can understand your opinion of BT but the way the system works now is that BT has been split into two companies,

The original British Telecom is still going as it always was but there is another separate "company or division" (never understood exactly), BT Openreach, which was forcibly setup by the government to ensure that BT did not have a monopoly of broadband. This "new" company is responsible for the actual Infrastructure the cables and local exchanges, and the boxes.

Due to this change you can go to many companies, ask them to supply an internet service and they will do this, you deal with the company you choose and they deal with BT Openreach who are obliged to deal with them.

This has resulted in a lot of competition and prices dropping considerably, due to your location I would also advise you to ask about the expected minimum Upload/Download speed rathe that the Sales favorite Up To Figure

I am not specifically recommending that site for choice of package but they do give good background on the subject There are many other Comparison sites on the net and other suppliers, I've just renegotiated my Fibre deal and have doubled my bandwidth to 76Mb/s for £2 less a month so deals are out there

One other thing when looking at comparisons - the system works on a commission basis for the websites, the suppliers pays them a fee based on how many customers they "feed" to the supplier, This is the same system used for Insurance and like that market Not all Suppliers pay the same commission, some do not pay any so are not ever shown on comparison sites.

Due to this it's worthwhile looking at prices directly once you have a clearer idea of your needs

I've heard about commissions being paid to websites elsewhere so not that surprised, but didn't know about BT's fate which was long overdue. A lot to take in though especially their minimum speeds which is an intriguing new one.
