One morning, my firefox would hangup and crash when opening some website. I would then forcefully shut it down and restart it and it would hang again if I would restore the old pages. I thought to update firefox and I got the option to update from v3.6 to v4.0.

When I updated, the pages that would hangup the browser would now open, but with text not appearing. I cannot remember those websites specifically now that all of them open in the latest version. But one link I remember is this:

Dialog box buttons/text is missing and Microsoft management - Microsoft Answers

This link would hangup the browser v3.6, But after update to v4.0, it now opens but appears like in the screenshot bellow: (Notice the text in search box and bellow the post)

Apart from this, I notice this text missing in some dialog boxes like - when saving files in some applications, and also during installations of Programs, Screenshot examples bellow:

I would really love to find a solution to all this. Thank you so much.

My pleasure. Sorry it didn't help.

One thing you can try which may help is to use Mozbackup;

MozBackup - Backup tool for Firefox and Thunderbird

make a backup of your current profile with it.

Uninstall Firefox and DELETE THE CURRENT PROFILE !

Now install the newest Firefox version ( 4.01 )

https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/4.0.1/releasenotes/

and then restore the profile from Mozbackup.

This has solved quite a few odd errors in the past.

Also, make sure you have CCleaner set to "Compact Databases" under "Applications" Firefox/Mozilla;

This might solve your problem immediately, so try it first!

Thanks again for the suggestions Mike. But unfortunately it did not work. :(

I also noticed, the text that does not appear are alphabets from A to Q

After 'Q' the letters 'rstuvwxyz' appear in those dialog/labels/text boxes. I noticed this from the login boxes for the word-press blog.

But still, the save button and the dropdown menu in the photoshop screenshot doesnt appear at all.....

P.S, i re-installed the .NET framework and Java, that didnt help either.

Which .net framework did you install? All versions of the .net framework up to 3.5.1 are installed by default. You should not try installing them from downloads. The .net framework can only be disabled in Windows features, you can not uninstall it. If you have "installed" versions in your PROGRAMS list, then uninstall them and run a Windows update.

You can try this;

Download details: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Standalone Installer)

and run a Windows update immediately after installing.

But I think you have a problem with Firefox itself. Firefox could be trying to use a corrupt font. Try this;

Oh yes I am sorry I did not really mean a re-installation but I downloaded the latest framework and java and installed them. framework was the exact 4.0 and java prompted to check if my PC is up to date with them.

About the font, I do not know how the it can be relevant to Photoshop and all the other installation windows in the OS. This is really odd. I hope I can find a fix to it without having to re-install the whole OS.

If the problem is system wide, you can try creating a new account, and see if that solves the problem.

However, where you are getting a lot of odd stuff like this, then a clean install is often the only sensible option.

I fixed the problem by recovering an old backup with acronis. I replaced the files corrupted in the above scan but it didnt help. I believe all this was caused by system crashes, BSOD etc. We have a lot of power outage in our country so that is my best guess. I never thought win7 ever gets corrupted but, I think it does with system crashes.

Thanks again people. I really appreciate it. +Rep
