Difference??? Win 7 Pro, and Win 7 Ult

Please tell me that's a joke and that you couldn't possibly be that vain. Who would you even need to be telling about your operating system, and what effect does that have on anything you'd be doing?

That's also somewhat insulting to those of us who do work from home, even part of the week. Besides, if you really cared about appearances and such trivial matters, what does that say about your business that you'd rather spend money than educate yourself on the very thing you are spending money on?

All we ask, if you are going to come to us for assistance, is that you be serious with us in return. We're spending our time trying to help you. If you don't want our advice, and don't care to have a valid answer...why did you ask in the first place?

I've already paid for the computer and it came with Win 7 Professional... besides, in my business I am a "professional" so it makes since to be able to say, "yeah, my operating system is Professional"

I don't want people thinkin I'm just some home based business when I tell them I use Home Premium... they'll think I just sit on the couch and watch TV half the time... which is not very Professional.

Go here to get the skinny from the horse's mouth. I had considered getting Ultimate for my next desktop until I saw that the only main difference between it and Pro was a choice of 35 languages (useless for me since English is my native language) and bit locker, a function that encrypts data (which, as I understand it, works only as long as the data stays on the computer). There are free programs that will encrypt data just as well, if not better.

The only significant differences between Pro and Home Premium (HP) are the ability to run XP programs that aren't otherwise capable of running on Win7, a supposedly better to connect to other computers in a single domain, and the ability to back up to a network. The latter two can be done with Win7 HP using free applications. I found all my major programs worked just fine with the Win7 HP that's on my new notebook. The few that didn't were some freebies that I was able to replace with other freebies that worked just as well or better. So, I've decided that Win7 HP is plenty for me and will get it for my next desktop.

If the computer you purchased came with Win 7 Pro that's an entirely different matter, although you could probably have negotiated a better price if you had gotten it with Home Premium instead.

It's sad though that someone would choose a more expensive OS, not because they need the extra features it provides, but because it reflects on their appearance.

I have computers with Win 7 Starter, Home Premium, Professional & Ultimate. I have the Pro and Ultimate versions mainly so I can play with and learn about their extra features to expand my knowledge. I have an MSDN subscription so I have access to all the versions since I am a developer. For my job, I need Pro since I need the ability to login to a domain but for my personal use I could get along just fine with Home Premium and would not feel any less professional.

In Ultimate edition, there is an language pack option, a few Windows games, bit locker encryption (Win 7 Pro available), sound schemes & etc. Not much difference in terms of functionality.

The computer I bought was a package deal that already had about $400 knocked off their regular price as it was on sale so there was no option for to "negotiate"... and most purchasing decisions are not based on how cheap something is.

You are absolutely correct, although, in this case, if someone offered me the same features for 20% less, it does come down to what's cheapest.

That's what I do... I look for the quality, name brand products at the best price I can find.

Then, when ordering online I like to buy on a credit card (not a debit card) as one of the perks is that if I get screwed... I can have my bank do a forced chargeback so I get me money back. This is a Visa / MasterCard rule that only applies to credit cards.

What's not to love about shopping with no risk?
