Why does disabling HT, lead to better ram performance?

The cpu takes a minor hit, obviously, but not as much as you would have thought.

Well, I'm no expert, but I think this may be a misrepresentation. From what I understand with HT an individual request takes longer to complete, but more requests can be completed in a given time period. It may be that the two tests mentioned do not take advantage of multiple threads, therefore show slower with HT due too the added complexity and latency.

IF, the CPU is the bottleneck in your system, then HT may indeed impair performance. You must remember many programs, games, common tasks cannot take advantage of HT. But unless you see a real world difference, I'd say keep HT enabled, I think we all get caught up in #'s and benchmarks, when we are all after the elusive higher WEI score (whom isn't guilty? Hands? ). If you don't notice a real world difference, leave HT enable for those programs and processes that can take advantage of that technology (more and more programs, and especially certain programs are written to take advantage of HT). While A Guy is generally correct about HT, you have an i7 920 with a decent over clock and Memory running at a decent overclock. There are relatively few programs that would need more than your four cores and while a few might still take advantage of HT the rest of the time HT will place an additional strain on your system (Core and memory).
If your present occ at 3.8Mhz was reached stably with HT on I bet you could reach a higher occ with it off without pumping up your Vcore and Vitt voltages. With an i7 myself, I have found very few programs where having HT on helped and far more situations where it hurt performance.
Again this is a personal observation and A Guy could very well be right given his experience.

An update. I have enabled HT again after using no HT for awhile. Where most software is not using 8 cores, windows does make an attempt too. Things are just snappier with HT enabled.

It is possible that running HT cpus, with HT disabled, for an extended period of time, may harm the cpu. When I re-enabled HT, it took a couple of boots to get all 8 cores firing.???????

Note that my memory score stayed at 7.9 after re-enabling HT. It was disabling HT that had caused it to go 7.8>7.9 originally.

Actually, my ram is what is limiting the cpu OC from being higher. Its only 1333MHz ram. I would need at least 1600MHz ram to get better. I have a nice balance as it is now. QPI and NB are dam near the same MHz. My $100 ram is working great.
