Disabling Indexing?

Hi,

How can I disable disk indexing and windows search, with out compromising the performance of my lap, especially when it comes to Updates?

I have indexing turned off.
I mostly use File Locator Lite for file searches.

I'm not sure why you'd want too ?
ssd or not windows search is a good feature and saves a lot of manual searching
I leave it on default
I suppose I could do without indexing outlook but again why would I ?

I turned it off to reduce the background processing that used CPU, disk I/O usage, etc.
I found it doesn't cause problems for me having it turned off.

I believe when i use Windows search it will be slower, but that's not a problem for me.
I mostly use File Locator Lite because i like a lot better than Windows Search, and it doesn't use the index.

As far as I know, indexing is of use to the average user only if you want to search the CONTENTS of files, rather than file names only.

I don't.

If you search only for file names, there are other tools that are much less intrusive and quicker than Windows built-in search.

If you DO need to search file contents, I have no idea if there are superior tools. If you are the type that might keep a potato soup recipe in a file named "neat stuff", rather than in a file named "potato soup recipes", then maybe you need to search for file content.

I sometimes search file contents when i want to find something.
For me, File Locator Lite does this easily, without using the index.

Hi,
I checked my asus and indeed samsumg magician had windows search disabled
So I did the same for my Acer
I'll have to wait and see if there is a positive or negative affect to performance or actually searching for stuff
The windows experience index was 7.3 before and it stayed at that after rerunning the assessment.
I thought that would of taken a hit but didn't.

Just to add
I did notice even samsung magician on my asus did not uncheck the box on Computer C-drive properties so I left it alone on the Acer too.

fyi,
I also set the startup type to Disabled for the Windows Search service.
Many may say not to change MS service startup types, but this has not caused a problem for me on W7, W8.1, and W10.

I was referring to option 2 and comparing from samsumg magician settings it made.
