disc about to break

Thanks to the very secure box that windows 7 came in, extracting the said discs has caused one of them to develop a very small split about 1mm long from the centre and stops just before it gets to the silver. what can I do about this please?

Eventually, a small split like the on you described will progress onto the data area of the disk itself, rendering it useless. At that stage, you will need a new disk as there is nothing that can be done to repair it.

In the meantime, whilst the disk still works, why don't you create a USB installation key? See this Tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2432-usb-windows-7-installation-key-drive-create.html

I'm aware that it will develop. Only part of my issue unfortunately, as the original fails to be read and won't boot, however a copy of the original disc that I made works fine...

Will MS replace the disc or will I have to ask for ingram to replace it?
