I have a Dell 2020 wireless computer with Windows 7 Pro. I also have a Western Digital 1T external backup drive and MSE and Malwarebytes protection...

I downloaded a short video (6 minutes long) about week ago and I've been having problems since then. First the download slowed down my computer and a Megabytes full system scan found 6 PUP's. I deleted the download and all the PUP's but now my computer will not start normally. Instead I have to start it by tapping F8 and then selecting the "last known good configuration" option to get it going (the other options don't work). I tried to find the problem(s) by scheduling "disc check" and using sfc/scannow but they will not work anymore. I would appreciate anyone's help with this...thanks

Hi hjt109,

It seems that you have got a virus or malware infection on the system. If the options provided marsmimar doesn't resolve the issue then you can check the link below which help you optimize the windows:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/220165-troubleshooting-steps-windows-7-a.html

Also, run the diagnostics on the system to isolate any hardware failures on the system:

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Nightmare!

Hi SandeeP and marsmimar,

What a nightmare!

I had a mess on my hands alright...nothing worked, not even System Restore or Safe Mode! It was quite a struggle but I eventually found my way into the System Configuation utility where I found that all boxes under the "Services" tab and the "Startup" tab were un-checked. In other words my computer was dead in the water with no virus or malware protection. I don't know how that happened but I'm sure malware (virus?) was responsible. Once I realized what had happened I re-checked all the boxes and was then able to start putting things back together. First I did a full scan using Malwarebytes....it found six(6) PUP's which I quickly removed. After the Malwarebytes scan(s), I did a full scan using Security Essentails but no other problems were detected. Anyway, I'm back up and running. Sure glad I was able to fix it myself. Pray for me...lol

Thanks both,
Hank
