Disc Drive not loading on HP

Hi.

This is my first thread. I own a HP TouchSmart600 Desktop and I have had it for a few years. Unfortunately I noticed that it can't read discs in the disc drive. It spins and spins until I enter Computer and click on it which is when it just ejects it. I run Windows 7 Ultimate. Any help is soo appreciated because I just run it through an old computer and then send it to this one. The problem is that could take several hours and when I get a game I want to play it straight away. Please help me anyone!

CD/DVD drives due tend to fail and are not expensive to replace. Usually an Optical drive will read discs but not be able to burn discs. One has to keep in mind that there's heat in them from the Laser beam that does the burning. As for trying to repair an Optical drive, it may be difficult to find a shop that can do it and the hourly rate will be as much or more than the cost of a new drive.

If you don't want to replace the drive, you can try cleaning the Laser lens with a kit that you can get online. It's basically a disk with plastic "whiskers" that, when it rotates, brush the laser lens clean.

Although, these days, with optical drives going for $20 or less, it's probably cheaper to just replace the drive.
