Hello,

I recently was trying to reinstall windows onto my computer, but I noticed when I put the disc in the drive it wasnt being read. I tried deleting the lower level filter driver but this only stopped my disc drive from even being able to open once I restarted my computer (so now my windows disc is stuck). Next I tried uninstalling all of the disc drives from the device manager and restarting my computer and this still hasn't worked. I then tried running the windows fix it tool and it could not recognize my drive.

Can some body please help me this is so frustrating.

Thank you.

You might actually have a failed DVD drive and that's why it couldn't read the disc.

Try going into BIOS to make sure that the computer is seeing the DVD drive.

Alternately, try unplugging the SATA cable from the DVD drive (with the PC powered off), boot up, go into Windows, and then shut down. Reattach the cable and boot up again, and see if Windows recognizes it or loads a new driver.

In most cases like this that I have seen, the CD drive was toast. That may not be so in your case, but it is a possibility.

Can you boot from it with a live CD ??
