BTW anyone who's getting the crash to desktop notice their video card running really hard, along with getting hot?

I have no video issues, just notice the card really running hard and getting hot.

I'm running it. I only played it for about an hr with the new fix. No CTD. I honestly couldn't BELIEVE that Steam and Bethesda did that with the LAA.exe!

I've had my MSI afterburner running on my other monitor while playing the game. honestly, I've not noticed anything strange when a CTD happens. Temps are normal. :huh: Card 1 running about 75 c and Card 2 running about 68 with the fans on 50% Work load is split between the two at about 60%/40% with card 1 getting the workout. I'm running the latest Nvidia driver.

I have also tried the patch, and been playing for 7 hours strait, and got no crashes and all seemed fine, my card runs a bit hot, but it usually runs that temps on big games

Yeah my card normally runs hot as well. I'm just curious to see if anyone noticed a pattern of the card running extra hard, or getting a little hotter than normal when the game CTD's.

I've got no issues with the card itself or issues with games. Just wondering if Skyrim itself is pushing the card a little harder than need be.

Well i think when they release a few oficial patch updates,they will fix that issue aswell, cause allot of isues need to be fixed, and i think they can improve performance and graphics, while letting the card work less ( i don't know how, but they did that with the witcher2, where the graphics and performance got a big boost, and somehow alowed the game to play on normal rigs just fine...)

Yeah I think you're right. I know a lot of people complain about the graphics but some of the graphical effects do push the system, and the fact the the game is CPU bound doesn't help either. They really do need to put out a performance patch.

That said, the only performance issues I have is the slight stuttering in some areas and the occaisonal CTD, other that that the game runs just fine for me.

There is a mod out, that makes the nightime even more beautifull, i have it installed, basically it makes the sky allot more colourfull.

And i dont want to spoil anything, but we all know that you get dragons in the game, but you also get vampires and warewolves! Now if you allready knew that, i just like to say i finnaly " wolved out " lol

I just ran for 38 minutes after a gost called the headless horsemen, while running i got attacked by an undead elk and i was on foot, its not so easy keeping up with someone when they have a horse and you dont!

Been playing a while,saw allot of weird stuff, was flying a bit at one point, but seeing a gostly horse with a headless rider was still verry surprising! Well done skyrim!

Oh and i once said the blood dragon was powerfull....try fighting a elder dragon its close to impossable!

Sometimes dragons seem to ignore me ive seen several on my journeys and as i much as a try to get their attention with a spell i get nothing. This is my pure mage run through and i thought they would have come after me by now. i remember on the warrior file i lost i was hunted by dragons non stop, it became an issue i moved to a different hold lol.

Got the dreaded purple missing textures bug happening all of the sudden now. Random trees are purple (in pre-texture model form), animals, people, etc. Getting worse as time goes along. Had random bits all glowy yellow inside a Fort once also. Have to exit and restart the game to clear it, but...

Seems to be pretty common googling "purple skyrim". Hope they fix it.

i had that too, i saw it sometimes in caves,trolls, and i think riften. it might have sorted itself out for me, i havent seen it in a while. good riddance.

Yeah, that's it. It gets worse as time goes by, until you close out and restart.

I just got it all the sudden today as well, after 70 plus hours of play total.

Going to a certain city, (forget the name at the moment) then boom.

Yeah I had just went to Winterhold Mage college and went to update my stats and boom....purple all over. The funny thing is it's just that screen. If I exit out, all it normal. Then.... I go outside and see the purple dragon. WTF!!!

Oh.... something else weird happened earlier today..... was playing the game and all of a sudden BSOD :shock:

Well I hope it's not my system - anyway a Google of the issue brought me to Steam - Anyone Else Getting BSOD from Skyrim? - Steam Users' Forums

Seems this isn't a unique problem. Wowser!

Yeah, I've got a few BSOD's from playing. Quite a few sudden CTD's out of the blue also.

Quite often I push F12 to take a screenshot and instead it just CTD. Not sure if that's Steam, or the game.


I had one unique episode where all of the sudden I got the "Display driver stopped responding and recovered" crash.

Never had that happen once with any set of drivers since owning this card BTW.

Then shorty after that, I had a system out of memory/low reference crash. Crashed the game, and also closed out my HTC home weather widget.

Have always had my system on just 512 MB of Virtual memory. After that episode I bumped it back up to 3 GB (have 12 GB total) to see if it actually had something to do with that. Haven't had it do the same again yet.


Learning the game is quite buggy, and some serious system straining as I go along. Which isn't a surprise.

Well it's nice to know I'm not the only one who's got a BSOD from a game. But yeah, the game could really use a performance patch. I don't mind a game pushing a system, but pushing it to BSOD's and CTD's is clearly saying the game engine is broken. Definitely needs a performance tweak in the form of a patch. Wow.

Just thought about something....

If you have a large save folder - C:\Users\UserName\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves, try deleting, or moving some of the older save files somewhere else.

I posted this suggestion for Fallout 3 a while back as it seemed to cure a lot of crashes for me. What I usually did in Fallout 3 was move all but the last 10-15 saves, after that my crashes subsided until the folder ballooned again (I do a lot of saving).

Anyway seeing that Skyrim crashes a lot you'd be better off saving often, which will obviously balloon your save folder so....

At any rate give it a try, you never know.

PS - You don't want to delete the autosave or quicksave files, just the Save# files - the oldest one of course.
