Discuss Skyrim

any interaction with esburn and he doesn't initiate the correct line and start the quest/continue with the quest (which was quite gutting considering he is required to proceed with the dragon quests), i cannot do any missions for the thieves guild as brynjolf won't talk to me, whenever i try to talk to him, he says "hmm" and walks off, a random quest came up after i picked up an artefact saying speak to the jarl of whiterun, but it was mid quest doing the battle for whiterun, and now the right dialogue won't show up for that quest.

May be hard to do but I suggest replaying any quests you suspect broken immediately. Also if you think a quest is broken check the Wiki page - Skyrim:Skyrim - UESPWiki as some quests require a few other things or tasks to happen, or happen in a certain order before completing.

That said, I will say the Thieves Guild has a few requirements before being fully complete, including some minor side quests from a couple of members.

Anyway one of the bad things about open world games is that you can lose track of tasks and may wind up doing something else, thus breaking a task that needed to be done before doing something else.

Have you done all these quest for the guild - Skyrim:Thieves Guild (faction) - UESPWiki

Also be aware that you have to do at least four jobs for the guild to become guildmaster - Skyrim:Under New Management - UESPWiki - I'm currently trying to become guildmaster myself so I'm working on the 4 jobs now.

Once that's done it's supposed to trigger another event which should allow you to re-engage Brynoff.

Thieves Guild - Can't speak to Brynjolf isn't broken if you didn't....

Also be aware that you have to do at least four jobs for the guild to become guildmaster - Skyrim:Under New Management - UESPWiki - I'm currently trying to become guildmaster myself so I'm working on the 4 jobs now.

As I'm currently doing this quest I've found that the 4 jobs are actually 4 special jobs, one in each hold - Whiterun, Markarth, Windhelm, and Solitude.

In order to get a special job you must do 5 smaller jobs in that hold. Once you complete the 5 smaller ones you'll be told there's a special job that needs done. Once the special job is done, you now have the support of that hold. This is all part of the "restoring the Thieves' Guild to its former glory" quest line.

Now once you've done this for all 4 holds, you will get the Taking Care of Business quest completed notification and the Under New Management Quest begins (Talking to Brynjolf) :)

So if you've not done all 24 jobs! - 5 small jobs and a special one for each hold, than don't expect Brynjolf to speak to you ;)

So. What does that have to do with the Thieves guild? It doesn't say they want thanes, they want the support of the hold. I didn't make the rules, the developers did ;) - Thieves Guild (Skyrim)

New Mod - Skyrim Optimization Mod

Skyrim Optimization Mod....

A new mod just came out, giving up to 40% performance increase on CPU-dependent situations, like in big cities like infamous Markath and Whiterun.
People who previously had around 20-25 FPS now get closer to 30-37 FPS. In villages like Riverwood, the FPS is a lot higher as well.

This mod does this by "rewriting some x87 FPU code and inlining a whole ton of useless getter functions along the critical paths because the developers at Bethesda, for some reason, compiled the game without using any of the optimization flags for release build."

"Part of the acceleration is changing un-optimized FPU code from basic x87 instructions (mid 1990s) to SSE (1999), which was introduced with the Pentium III, and which modern compilers generally optimize for you unless you specifically tell them not to."

I've not tried the mod as I typically don't play with mods on first playthrough of games. That's me. That said I may give this a try once I see how it takes off.

Man there's a lot of idiots on that board :/

Will be interesting to see if this helps more than it destabilises the game.

One does not simply just "turn on optimization" in the compiler and ship it out. It greatly lengthens testing and debugging time. Optimisations turned on (and which ones you decide to turn on and at what level, it's considerably more complex than a single check box) can increase code speed significantly but it also significantly increases the chance for program crashing without being given the extra time to properly write/test and debug the optimised code.

Inlining on the XBOX with it's 256 meg of ram? I don't think so... Inlining used indiscriminantly can balloon the exe tremendously (while speeding it up).

Given the real possibility of a rushed release, would that really have been preferable?

Anyway, it would be nice if they would go back and try to optimise the PC port, though for the most part the game runs pretty darn well as it is. I'd rather keep my stability (such as it is) than perform this kind of patch. At least not till I was officilly "done" with the game and just messing with it.

Though also not a good idea then as new user generated content and DLC stuff will eventually be coming down the pike, nice to have a still functioning install when it does :)

I'm sorry but I'm not getting your post. Perhaps the words of the modder can shed some light on his mod - How can Skyrim be so unoptimized? Modders do better job than Bethesda - Bethesda Softworks Forums - Page 4

Basically what the modder has said is that the coding is poorly optimized in that it doesn't fully utilize SSE2 code used with today's CPU's, that his mod addresses that issue and allows SSE2 code to be used.

We also know that the game isn't optimized and can further be tweaked to look better through the ini files....

While somewhat cumbersome to tweak, manually editing values in the Skyrim's .ini file can show off the draw distance, particle effects, improved shadows and lighting, and special effects like bloom and radial blur that the engine can offer.

Maximum PC | Gamers, Start Your Engines! 6 Top Gaming Engines Face Off - Page 3

Anyway the game was a bit of a rush job. LAA patch? A game today should really need a patch to work with 4gig of memory???? Really?

Since the game was made to run on 256 meg, 2 gig should be plenty (and in fact it is until you start modding it).

But see, that's the problem, no one on the board is a coder and the hackers are well.. hackers. Probably never had to produce an actual product in their lives so pretty much everything they say is complete bollocks.

Optimisation increases complexity and reduces safety of generated code it can also balloon it considerably. It requires MORE testing and debugging and makes debugging significantly harder.

Any idiot can flip the optimisation switch on the compiler (Well all 20 of them), but it takes a true idiot to do that to a product and kick it out the door without increasing the dev time or personnel to make sure it's being done right.

So yeah I suppose they probably should have doubled their PC coder staff over the last 3 years and tryly made Skyrim a first class PC game (Better menus etc), but most of the comments on those boards are WAY off base and nearly completely unwarranted. :/

Well said fseal!

Now something way different, i downloaded a mod that changes the dragonborn song that the bards sing, to imho a way better version and added a flute and so on, anyway i searched on youtube for that song and artist, and i thoght i would share the link, all credit goes to the girls that sings it,and i have no connection to it, i just like it ALLOT, and since it goes about skyrim and is part of skyrim, I thought I could share it.Hope no one minds.

But see, that's the problem, no one on the board is a coder and the hackers are well.. hackers. Probably never had to produce an actual product in their lives so pretty much everything they say is complete bollocks.

A lot of innovations and inventions have been made by people not in the field of said discipline. Also you can't way what their occupation is. Just because I don't work for Best Buy doesn't mean I don't know computers.

Anyway If you want to call idiot then let's not forget the actual developers of the game's code for letting such an un-optimized game hit the market. Which BTW was improved upon by "idiot" modders creating the first LAA patch before Bethesda released their own 4gig LAA Patch.

Sorry but I fell your attack is unwarranted since it's those idiots/hacks that keep developers on their toes since they can't just throw crap out there and not expect some "hacK" to expose their (developer's) sloppy, lazy effort.

BTW you ever really wonder why there are creation kits and developer kits readily available???? To help mod and improve the product.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I prefer to give credit, not criticism, for trying.

My two cents.

Anyway I just want to finish off the Thieves Guild, and maybe start the Dark Brotherhood and I'm done. Maybe.
