Basically when I try to initiate a disk check, you know it tells you it'll do it once you restart your computer right? Well, after numerous times, it never EVER performed a disk check. I ran a /scannnow and I have a log file for someone, I believe its a cbs log or some sort, I'm not sure what its called, I'm kind of in a rush to go out right now so if someone has the time to view it, it would be MUCH APPRECIATED..

According to the log, its failing to repair the autochk.exe

Which, I believe this part of the Disk Check..

Are you trying to run the diskcheck from the Command Window?

I have done that. After a restart, I selected the advance boot selection and highlighted "repair your computer"
It said it was fixing errors and may take up to an hour, luckily it only took like 10 minutes, unfortunately it did NOT solve my problem.
Check disk still wont work..

I was told to get the autochk.exe file from my boot disk, but when I bought this PC it was discounted 20% off cause it was used for testing at "Fry's" and didnt come with a boot disk.
I can get one for $20 off toshibas site, but I dont really want to spend 20$ just to check my disk, there has to be another way around...

I was wondering if anyone has windows 7 and can put an autochk.exe on a zip file? I dont even know if its possible. Maybe you have to have the exact laptop as I do...
I run a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q860 if that helps...

Thanks:zip:

uhh... not to be mean but maybe you should make your own post instead of jacking mines...
It is similar, except my disk check "WONT RUN AT ALL"
by the way your problem isnt really a big deal, at least it runs. ,All you have to do is CANCEL the disk checker. When the disk check starts up every time, just press "ANY KEY" and it will CANCEL the disk check... I mean it says it on your screen right before it starts to verify the files.. problem solved.

It still wont, so id appreciate it if someone helped me on my own post, you should make your own. It's just that my disk check has been broke for a while now, and my scannow says theres problems but it CANT fix the disk checker...

So if anyone can try to give me more solutions id appreciate it.

Since your machine will boot, run System File Checker (SFC). With Windows 7 no DVD is needed as all files are already on the hard drive in the winsxs directory. If chkdsk.exe or any of the files it depends on are missing or corrupt, sfc will replace the file.

I did that a long time ago and a poster already read my log and he said that chkdsk.exe could NOT be repaired.... I think im SOL?

You could try copying chkdsk.exe from another location on your hard drive. Open a Command Prompt and do a dir \windows\chkdsk.exe /s. That will show you where other copies are located. Try copying from one of the other locations to C:\Windows\system32.

For instance, on my Win 7 Pro X64 computer, it's located in:

C:\Windows\System32
C:\Windows\SysWOW64
C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-chkdsk_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_1ddb4b87a6618437

Hey Z, sorry for not replying earlier. Anyways, I chose the 3rd folder if your list
(since its similar to mine but probably not exact but you get the idea)
I chose it cause it has the same "Bytes" if that matters, I dont know.

HOWEVER I attempted to copy it into the System32 folder but it says
"I need access to this folder" copy failed?

How exactly do I "access" it?

Disregard that last post...
I found out how to take ownership, but when I try to copy the file NOW it says

"This action can't be completed because the folder or file in it is open in another program"

I close all folders and clicked try again, and the same message pops up...... it's not copying....

Try booting to Safe Mode (press F8 during boot), login as Administrator and copy it from there, see if that works.
